Bought Apple TV before Christmas and for some reason it seems to have pooped it self!! I am going to take to the apple store tomorrow but for the life of me I can not find my receipt?? Will I get any joy from them?
Apple store usually email receipts, well did for me. I'm sure you wil be sorted anyhow. Any after sales issues that I have had with Apple have been great.
I bought at airport, I have looked at credit card and normal statement but still can't find the darn thing grrrrr
When I bought mine, they scanned the box and registered it to me. Hopefully the serial number should cover you.
Whether you've got it or not id take it back all the same....a friend of mine took his ipod in as he'd dropped it in some water. He legitimately wanted to get it repaired and was willing to pay so took it in (Bristol apple store) told them what happened and they replaced it for free even though it was a month out of warranty. Apparently they were so surprised he was totally honest and for that reason they replaced it. Good way to keep customers coming back!
You do not need a receitp for warranty claim, EU haters fingers in ears, thx to EU legislation forbidding manufacturers from refusing to accept warranty receipt on that basis. Same legislation that states item purchased within EU needs to be accepted for warranty repair by manufacturer in any EU country they sell it in. I do not give receipts when I give gifts.
I think under EU rules you have 2 years of warranty automatically. Has that version of the Apple TV been out for 2 years? I can't remember, but I wouldn't be surprised if it hadn't. Do a little homework. If not, then it should be de facto covered by warranty. We don't record serial numbers for small items like Apple TVs, but with the serial number Apple should be able to tell you when it was manufactured, so you should still easily be within the 2 years. If you think the shop did record your serial number (they also took your name and address when you purchased for their database), ring them up. Is it really much cheaper buying at an airport?
EU rules state that the buyer must have a minimum of 2 years to be able to make a claim with the seller you purchased the item from. In the UK, our laws extend to 6 years (so much longer than the EU directive). The EU law is often very misinterpreted and confused with a 2 year warranty. It is not a warranty. In the UK, after 6 months, there is a reverse burden of proof that shifts to the buyer, meaning that sellers are well within their rights to ask you to prove that the item was faulty at point of purchase. Most sellers give a 12 month warranty and don't shift the reverse burden of proof after 6 month (which is over and above your statutory right).
Went into the apple store today and the guy was going to change it straight away. I then went on to say about my receipt and that it had been bought at an airport and he said I would need to take it back to the airport?? something about them maybe getting their stock from somewhere else? I am going back in the morning for them to test it (and I've found my credit card statement)
