Got a broken chin vent on my Arai Corsair which on doing some research looks like a common problem. Got a new one ordered but was wondering if anyone had changed one and were there any tips for doing it.I can see the small hole in the chin on one side the other is still firmly attached . Any assistance greatly appreciated.Cheers
Happened to mine. They replaced it free of charge and lent me a loaner in the meantime. Contact the distributer.
Thanks.Helmet is over 5 yr old now dont know how receptive they would be to helping . Have heard some people glue the replacement in place ?
Mine went back for a new strap, with a broken chin vent on it, came back with the strap done, but chin vent left untouched. Hope you have better luck than me Changing the chin vent on my old Astro J(now out to pasture) was ok, you can sometimes see in from the vent inside the lugs to release when getting out the old one, albeit as it's broken it should be easy. The new one just pushes in I believe.
Thanks , have just checked the web site and because mine is a Ducati version it has to go back to dealer were purchased but as bootsam says the warranty cover looks very good ,although your personal experience doesnt back that up. Will give dealer a ring tomorrow and see where I get, thanks again
well bootsam has had good, mine was ok experience After all, they do a strap change for free once , on any Arai. so its quite good, and i have always had Arais, so not too unhappy.!
I had problems with mine on a Viper Here is what I found on the Viper "So I got a new chin vent today and discovered (after damaging it) why I'm going through so many of these things The 2 lower pillars have a triangular catch on the end to retain them into the rectangular space cut in the helmet shell, they sit on the lower edge of the cutout. However the pillar before the catch is like an T in section. I think where the posts slot into the helmet are meant to have a small slot in the helmet shell to accept the vertical part of the T with the top part sitting on the lower edge of the rectangular gap. My helmet doesn't have these slots, really surprised but the shell looks like its been marked for the slots but they have never been cut. So every time I pushed the vent on I broke the lower posts and then its a matter of time before the top posts snapped and the vent fell off. With the force required to snap the vent into place, you'd never notice that the posts had snapped. There is no way I'm taking a Dremel to the shell so I ground down the lower section of the one remaining lower post left and it now sits in place. Superglued the top lip of the vent and along with the 2 top posts (which just press into place) that will be enough to retain it." Arai's are the best as far as I'm concerned but a lot of the plastic used on vents and pods leave a lot to be desired IMHO
They do? I've sent emails to both Arai UK and here in Switzerland and no one has ever answered one. One half of my visor is always fogging up (despite changing it) so it looks like a blocked vent somewhere. I'd like someone to take a look at it, but so far, deathly silence. I know my RX7 is about 7 years old, but it hasn't had that much use (I also have a Shark) and is carefully stored. Do I really want to bin it? No. But the misting happens the whole time if the air temp is below about 20° and it's a pain and quite often dangerous.
Ive had 2 chin vents break on separate helmets and always had 100% positive service from Arai. I can only say it how I experience it. Both times I went via the distributor which was Phoenix at the time. Both times I dropped my lid at Dobles Honda, picked up a loaner and a couple of weeks later had my helmet returned. I cannot complain about the service Ive had. Its been 1st class both times.
Had mine replaced at WDW free of charge, even though my Astro-R is probably 6 or 7 years old now. This was done at the service stand run by Arai Europe, the same guys that are often at shows and bike meetings. He used a plastic pry tool to remove the original part, and quite a bit of force, but the new one just pushed back in. Have a look at the new part when it arrives as I expect it will help you figure out how it is held in place.
Thanks for your help everyone. The latest update.. contacted dealer where I bought helmet from and was told that I would have to pay carriage £30 then the price of the part on top if indeed they would honour the warranty as I purchased about 4 years ago.The reason being I bought Ducati rep from Ducati dealership As stated got a replacement part on the way in any event, may just call distributor tomorrow and get their take on it
Just to complete thread very helpful ,timely response from distributor . Stated if within warranty and a warranty issue then I wouldnt have to pay anything for carriage or parts. They also gave instructions on how to fit myself which is what I will do.Thanks again for assistance
No problem. In the packaging there is a leaflet which reads (my comments in brackets) Step1.Center the new vent in the vent hole in the shell, lining up the locator pins (these are the pins which fit the 2 holes in the helmet) on either side with its corresponding Locator Receiver Hole and rest the two lowermounting clips on the bottom edge of the shell hole(these are the two pins with the hooked end) Step2.With the lower mounting clips resting on the bottom ledge of the hole, move the vent up against the shell so that the locator pins and upper mount clips are just about ready to enter the shell.(mine doesnt have upper pins) Step3.Gently press in and down on the vent until the upper mount clips lock into place Just done it ,dead easy. The down and in bit is the key.
