I've been using a Shoei GT Air to date which for reasons explained elsewhere needs to be consigned to the bin / backup basket. I fancy a Ducati branded helmet and that means trying Arai. I'm a BIG fan of internal sun visors but Arai don't do them. The nearest they get is their Pro Shade Visor System. I ride a naked bike (monster). I was wondering if the pro shade visor catches air or causes extra buffeting when it's flipped up. Does anyone know?
Can’t you also get Ducati AGV? They would have a drop down visor. Pro shade is just silly. Had one, gave up. Black visor during day and 30 secs to swap (unless Tour X4).
Can you expand on why you gave up? Swapping isn’t an issue. Carrying a second visor is. Doubt it’d fit under the seat on a monster and I don’t want to be forced to use a tank bag all the time. I’m a relatively new rider so if I’m getting this wrong do let me know. I’ve always had a drop down visor.
You can place them round your side under a jacket in a visor bag. Easy and unobtrusive. But ask yourself, do i ride at night? I don't generally.
You ride along in the day with your visor down and the shade down (flies on visor and on shade), you then lift the shade for whatever reason and scoot along a bit more (clean bit of visor exposed - hurray!)... the sun comes back out so you lower the shade (squashing the flies on the previously clean bit of visor and getting the underside of the shade grotty with flies)... what a mess. Also try doing a lifesaver at national speed limit + with the shade down... whoosh! Arai and others do like a bumbag for visors that basically means you can strap the spare visor round your waist under or over your jacket.
Or you can just use a dark visor and if you get pulled by the police you can scrabble around your waist a pretend that the visor bag with your clear visor has fallen off. Allegedly.
While standing in front of my slightly illegal number plate and leaning on the ‘race use only’ sign on my termi’s?
Well, you guys have educated me here. I didn't realise carrying a second visor was such a non issue. I'm going to order an Arai RX-7V and skip the pro shade thingy and just buy a dark visor to go with it so i can look more pro. Thanks.
If you look on Gearchange website they were doing RX7v with black visor and a fancy helmet bag. Talk nicely and they might throw you in a visor pouch.
Not sure the RX7 is the best helmet for an upright bike.. more meant for a reach over sport bike.... or at least that's what my dealer told me when I was looking... I assume the vision cut out is in a slightly different place.... but he could also have been talking BS and wanted me to buy the GT Air..
You can get a light reactive pinlock, works for me on my rx7gp, it will never go as dark as a black tinted visor but its pretty good and no need to carry anything or worry about being caught out in bad light.
I think i'm going to go for a QV Pro as a shop near me has one for a good price. It was between that and the RX-7v and the QV Pro was over £100 cheaper. I really wanted the Shoei GT Air 2 and the Neotec to fit. I had the same results as yesterday at another shop though. The mediums were too big and the Neotec small gave me a headache within 5 mins The GT Air didn't give me a headache but I was worried it might eventually as there was a little pressure. I guess I've got an Arai shaped head.
Like you I’d wanted the GT air but when I tried it on it just wasn’t a good fit. Despite me having Shoeis for years. The shop suggested I tried an Arai and initially I was sceptical as my head had never fitted them before. But the QV-Pro just felt right and nice and plush inside. I’ve had no issues with the shade, and I’ve done some reasonable runs on the Autobahns with it.
I have an Arai and a Shoei GT air. I prefer the GT air. The sun visor is a great asset, I’d really like one on the Arai but you know the score. Personally I think Arai’s external flip up visor is Micky mouse. However they do a pinlock visor that is light reactive. About £55, looked impressive.
