Are All Ducati Performance Clutch Slipper

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Simon Norton, Jul 13, 2023.

  1. As title really as my one with needs setting up or it's not a slipper?

All help as always is helpful

  2. A more precise question may help elucidate a useful response.

  3. I bought a 1098 with a Ducati performance (written on the front) red cover plate clutch.
I was wondering if it is a slipper clutch or not as it stuters when downshifting not slipping as expected. I can't find a performance clutch that is not a slipper but willing to hear different.

  4. You would've thought that the word Performance was confirmation that's a slipper only available, but maybe they manufacture both sport & non-sport versions.

  5. I believe one can buy a non slipper clutch pressure plate from DP.
Easy way to confirm is to remove the pressure plate (remove 6 spring post bolts and springs) and look under the plate. If it has serrations to engage with the drum then it’s not a slipper. If it is smooth, then it’s a slipper. Also, once plate is removed, if there is a spider spring, it’s a slipper.

  6. I have a slipper clutch on mine and I get a bit of a knock at the lever. Am told it’s the clutch doing its job and it doesn’t cause issues. Are you experiencing the same thing?

  7. Will remove tomorrow if I get time. Just spent 6hrs getting rid of some heated grips and fitting new throttle cables + quick action throttle. That got longer than on my minitwin : unamused:. One thing I forgot from my 848...... These are not designed to be worked on fecking airbox basket.

  8. No actual rear stutter unfortunately. Can tell when I unintentionally backing in as I dropped one to many I to the corner. Probably looked good from someone watching behind as I got away with it, but the face didn't look cool under the helmet :dizzy:

  9. In my experience it will only slip to a certain degree. If you go down too many cogs it will let you know as you seem to have happened.

  10. Well had a turn out for the books. Went out today to test out my "longest ever" Install of a quick action throttle. Now this may not sound related but since doing this the slipper clutch now works......... All I can think is that the throttle wasn't shutting off quick enough due to very slightly slow sticky cables. 3x down shift, drop the clutch and perfect.
Never thought that's why the clutch was feeling so bad. I literally thought that the Ducati performance was the worst till today. It would suddenly grab, felt very slight engagement then bang is hooked up. But as I say now the sexiest slipper clutch.

    Thank you for ideas anyway.

  11. So it is confirmed that it’s a DP Slipper ?

  12. I can categorically confirm that DP make (made, probably more likely) clutch pressure plates for both slipper and standard clutches.
