Anyone know what type of hard plastic that is used in some leathers as elbow or knee armour? I have a cracked knee piece which is dark grey in colour and on the actual crack it seems a bit lighter.......... .........it's not really flexible in fact I would say it's pretty rigid. I'm guessing ABS or Polypropylene......As it is intended for an impact I suspect ABS is more likely, but is there a decent glue that would deal with either properly (Poly is hard to glue apparently and Supaglue didn't touch it) Thanks, AL
No idea on the type of plastic but forcefield do replacement pieces which will be much more comfortable if you don't manage to repair it.
It flipping well would be knowing my luck................absolute s*d to glue...........wonder if I can plastic weld it......... I don't want to cut my spare knee armour about to get it to fit.......borrox.
This might do the job http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Humbrol-P...es_ModelKits_ModelKits_JN&hash=item4acef59604
Its what El T said...........bl**dy polypropylene..............sod all sticks to it.......... But I done mended it........I drilled a series of 3mm holes all along each side of the break and countersunk them slightly; inserted a strip of plastic film inside between the stitched on padding and the back of the armour; scraped the break edges to get a V joint; wired the break together with stainless lockwire in 5 places, and then using a syringe injected an epoxy resin through the holes, which oozed out of the other holes making a mucky but connected band inside..........on the outside I used a 25mm wide strip of aluminium mesh across the break, then stippled more epoxy resin through it and over it.........Now it has sandwiched the break between the inside and outside resin (and because of the countersinking, the inside resin can't pull out). Just finishing off with some car bumper black filler. It won't break during handling, but a really hard impact probably would break it again, but by then in theory it should have done it's job..........and stuck in my knee. AL
