Hey guys, After doing some research it seems that upgrading the standard 45mm system to a 50mm one on a standard biposto bike had negative effects on performance. I'm 3/4 of the way through building my engine, R2000 pistons, carrillos, 37+ 31 valves, porting and 748R camshafts. Will I see improvements upgrading my 45mm standard system with something bigger or should I just stick with what I got? At what point does the standard system become a restriction? Thanks
Normally the only benefits you get by going up in size in your pipework is when you have top end work done as well, like wot ewe has dun! With what you're having done I would suggest that an increase to 50mm would be worth while. I would also suggest that you might consider some dyno time as well.
I've done around the same mods as you plus 748r injection and run a 50mm system with no apparent detriment. 149rwhp 996.
Very impressive figures! 50mm system seems like the way to go. May I ask how you managed to fit the 748r intake system into a 996?
It fits with few problems, you need the inlet rubbers to go with it, and air box with different rocker covers. However unless you have a late frame with a deep crossmember then the lower part of the air box needs a lot of cut and shut to get it to fit. I also had the Supersport restriction mschined out of the inlet tract.
