Hiya was wondering if there is a technique for attaching panniers . Just got a set and had a quick go and it wasnt straightforward for me so thought I would ask rather than press on and damage something. In addition has anyone got the Rizoma tail tidy and the panniers. I have and the indicators have had to be slid inwards as far as possible and it still looks like its going to be a tight fit . thanks
So there is a bit of a knack but straight forward. Key in and a quarter turn to release the handle. Holding the pannier by the handle offer the "beak" at the top to the slot in the rear fairing. Locate it and then align the bottom of the pannier with the foot rest and push towards the front of the bike. The locking mechanism is located when you can fold down the handle. It should be a smooth slide so if it isn't going make sure the top and front are properly located. On removal, lift the handle and give the front of the pannier a gentle slap with the palm of your hand to release it. Not sure about the Rizoma tail tidy but I'm guessing the indicators are actually inboard of the standard which need to be flexed a little anyway. Good luck, Andy
Spray some silicone rubber/plastics lube (ideally....but wd40 will do;-) in the slots in the rear fairing....helps a lot and also clean the slots from time to time as well - makes for a whole lot easier experience sliding your lugs home
The biggest problem I find is the b*stard rubber mounts on the back of the pillion footpegs. Even with silicone they seem to grab and stick which means you end up having to fight them on and off.
'Pledge' polish....pref one with wax ;-) Oh that's another tip...........glue the rubbers to the pillion peg attachment good and proper, people have found out the hard way that they can come off and get lost ;-)
Thanks . Yes the dy rubber made it difficult, used WD 40 which helped . Will get them glued in place Andy. What glue did you use ?
I used Sikaflex on mine, the same stuff I use to seal and hold split rim alloys (it remains flexible once cured). Sodding things still pulled off
I think I just used an ordinary contact adhesive......anything that has some flexibility (like Doodle said) rather than stuff like Araldite that goes rock sold and is likely to crack off.
I used superglue, it bonds rubber to metal extremely well. I've used it successfully in the past to stick together anti-vibration mounts that had come apart.
I have 2 right hand side ones lol... One was spare, the LH side wasn't with the bike when I bought it. the right fits on the left, not very plush, but it does the job just fine. I didn't glue them down, I just remove them and put them under the seat when not in use. As for fitting the panniers, there is indeed a knack. It took me a while to get it. Don't be afraid to give em a gentle knock into/out of place.
