Au revoir, Adieu and goodbye

  1. Well the time has finaly come for me the Multistrada 1200 and Ducati to part company. The deal is done and she is part-exed. Have loved riding the bike in the 18 months I have had her. Probably the most exiting good looking and versatile bike I have ever owned but..........
Its been so unreliable, had so many issues, had so many failures and so many warranty issues that I can no longer enjoy riding it. Every day I wonder what will be next!

Have enjoyed being part of the forum and it is a good forum with great shared info, banter, and general chat. I will probably still hover in the background as my lad is still keeping the faith with his 620 Multistrada (2005 which he loves and has never had an issue)

What have I replaced it with? Well gone the Triumph route but not an Explorer; I swopped to a new Speed Triple 1050 in red. Wanted to get away from all the things that have caused problems, fancy electronics, keyless start and multi mode engine and suspension settings. Only time will tell if the Triumph is more reliable but I hope so. Now have 2 years warranty and 0 miles on the clock and dont now have to pay out for the looming 15K service on the Ducati

I just did not get the feeling the Multistrada would make a good longterm high milage machine unless you have deep pockets but that is just me. Lots of people only post when things go wrong and I am sure there are many happy owners out there and I wish you all well, it is a great bike and with Audi's help I am sure the recalls and warranty issues will become less.

    Cheers

  2. I tested the Speed Triple last month before I decided to go for the Multistrada. The Speed T is an impressive machine and quite a bit of fun but not for me. I want something that I can chose to go slower on and the Speed just made me want to go mental all the time!! It will be reliable though. Got my new Multistrada on Monday and on Tuesday Riders rang me to tell me there is a recall for coolant on it!! Having had three Ducati STs since 1998 without any problems I hope I haven't made a mistake!

Good luck and join the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club.

  3. I went the other way Richard, sold my street triple r for a MTS.
Couldn't fault the str to be honest great handling bike and cut through traffic like a hot knife through butter, also has the arrow low boy which added....ahem character and a whole lot of noise.
Tested the speed triple and its a great bike, just my knees and back are shot now nearing 50, so I went for the MTS as its still a nuters bike but a comfortable nutters bike....
You'll be happy with the bike Richard, those triples are awesome and the noise is soooo intoxicating, enjoy mate!

  6. Ha most of the Dry clutch Ducati's sound like a loose bag of bolts but seriously I will miss that V twin soundtrack, just need to get a loud exhaust on the Triumph

  7. Like Neil, I came from Triumph to Ducati - I had a Speed Triple and probably still would if I hadn't wrecked my elbow leaving me unable to ride it.

Carbon Black edition, Arrow race system, LSL rearsets, Ohlins shock and various other trick bits. Spat flame on the overrun and generally looked like it wanted to rip someone's face off - I miss it :frown:

  8. Good luck Richard. I had a Sprint ST1050, which was a lovely bike, cracking engine with a nice burble from the exhaust! I'm sure you'll enjoy your time with it, just keep an eye on the tyre pressures. The handling on mine really suffered if the pressures had just dropped by a small amount.

  9. You will be very happy with your Triumph I am sure. That 1050 triple is superb. I have two Triumphs,my ST 1050 has 32,000 miles done my me and never crossed the threshold of any dealer since I bought it:upyeah:

  10. Thanks everyone think Ive probably just been a little unlucky with the Ducati. Never owned a Triumph before but the Mrs bought a Street Triple earlier this year which I enjoyed riding but was just to small. The Speed fitted better although the riding position is more extreme than the Multi think It will be fine. Only problem now is where to stash a few clothes for the odd trip away, having a look at the bike show next month for options

  11. Ventura luggage is good, and 2 second job to fit the luggage case part on and off. used to use it on my gsxr even got a few people come up to me when parked asking where i got it. Swaps over to a discrete (ish) grab rail when not in use.

  12. I used to have Daytona 675. Really nice bike. Rode it all year round regardless the weather (well, except snow maybe;) and it never missed a beat.

  13. Richard,
I've owned 5 Hinkley Triumphs over the last few years. The most recent being my adorable T100 Bonneville. The triple engines were my favourite though. So characterful and a good compromise between the smoothness of a four and the throb of a twin. You'll not be disappointed.

  14. Speed Triple 1050 engine is one of the the best road bike engines ever.

But you need to get the Arrow low boy exhaust for the best noise and the best handling. It loses over 6kg in weight fitting the Low boy.

  15. I'll second Dukes recommendation, a low boy is a must, if purely for the sound only, they sound obscene - which is good :upyeah:
Had one for the street triple and it was my best mod on the bike.

  16. Triumph are good bikes, and probably spiritually the closes to ducati out there in a lot of respects. They also make almost exactly the same number of bikes per year as Triumph as well.

I would love an early Daytona 1200 (in yellow) or a trophy 900 (again, the early version)

  17. Sorry to see you go. Enjoy the Trumpet and keep visiting the forum. Who knows, we might tempt you back to the fold !
