automatic filler cap

  1. just a quick question, am considering this add-on...

I know how it works - auto unlocks for a period of time after key off...

silly question is - does it still have the key hole in case the electrical auto-unlock fails and you need to fill up ?

  2. No. No keyhole in case of failure. You can undo the 6 allen bolts though, and if it fails, try pressing down on the filler cap and then "unlocking" it via ignition off... that "cured" my sticky keyless fuel cap a few times. It has now been replaced under warranty as there is a "new" version. I can't tell you what the difference is though, as it looks exactly the same! It works so far though. Also, to be fair, it only (?) refused to unlock about 4 times in 10000 miles.... but that is still 4 times too many!

  3. ah ok, understood. maybe I will spend the cash on more carbon - wingflaps I think...bugs

  4. Don't get me wrong, it is a good piece of kit, and I had one of the very early ones. So far, I've never been stranded. Never say never, but so far so good. It is handy, and if I had my time again, I'd still fit one. I think it should come as standard though. Keyless ignition kind of lends itself to keyless fuelcap...in my opinion. I should add, when we rode to Poland last summer, it never failed to open, and I was never worried about it.

  5. Oh, and one thought comes to mind....it's not that it "doesn't work", more that it can occasionally get "stuck". On 2 of the occasions that it "failed", I "pushed it closed" (it wasn't "open", but I just pushed it more to the closed position), did the "ignition unlock" routine, et voila! It opened. I still had it swapped though, as the bike is under warranty and I raised it with the dealer after the first incident. So maybe that is the "cure". Maybe.

  6. I was tempted by one of these, and still have the option to order one. The thing that kills it for me is that you still have to fumble around for wallet etc, so how much hassle can it save? Have I missed the point?

  7. No, just a little easier. Horses for courses and all that. If you're happy with a key, don't bother. That's why I think it should be standard. Keyless ignition AND filler cap. Makes is simple. Or, just have a key for both.
