Hey peeps Is Autosol still the metal polish of choice for various bits around the bike or am I still living in the 90's? Cheers
I still use it, especially on the exhaust and if mixed in with wire wool works a treat on really corroded stuff.
Autosol is quite course compared to some metal polishes it is entirely down to what you want to use it on. If you use it on soft alloy it is hard to get a really fine polish and in which case you need to use some like Maguiars, Simichrome etc. Most US alloy wheel polishes will work. If using it for stainless then it should be fine.
I really like HG stainless metal polish. It's liquid and comes in a fairly large bottle, so very good value. Peek metal polish in a tube will give a much finer finish than Autosol as well. Surprisingly, Autoglym paint restorer works really well on stainless and gives a very fine mirror-like finish.
B&Q are selling off their stocks of autoglym metal polish at the moment cheap, But I use brasso it seems finer than the others and gives a good finish, and call me a tight wad but its cheap.
Brasso might clean off muck and oxidation from stainless but it's not hard enough to polish the metal
