Avanti Race Parts

  1. Anyone bought any carbon bits from Avanti?
Thinking about finally embracing the clatter and opening up my clutch. I quite like this cover - the "vented" one (paired with either an DP or EVR pressure plate): Avanti Race Parts - Ducati Parts and Accessories for Road and Race Motorcycles. Services for Ducati Motorcycles. Race prep, Paintwork, ECU Repairs, Anodising and more!
    What's Avanti carbon like?

I've got a DP carbon hugger (which is nice quality but the colour is a bit grey) and various Conquest Carbon bits which are just as good as DP IMO and a nicer, deeper black which I prefer, and some Lieb Speed belt covers and intake ducts (also form Steve at Conquest) which are absolutely exquisite.
    Wondering how Avanti will compare.

  2. Carbon looks class but offers very little to zero protection in an off , personally I'd use an alloy open cover to help protect engine from accident damage.
    Just my flawed opinion.

  3. Don't think an ally cover will offer any more protection than carbon in a slide. Or indeed the OE plastic cover. They'll all be dust in a second. I'd sooner rely on purpose-made frame and engine sliders and keep covers off the deck. (In addition, if I track the bike I'll fit temporary GB Racing covers as well. I've seen how effective they are after a 70 mph highside. R&G equivalents don't come close).

  4. Not sure what antonye's (Avanti Race Parts) carbon is like but I have had excellent service and the bits I have had from him have been first class. PM him on here and ask the question. Andy

  5. I will. I think I'd better take the OE cover off first and fire it up to see if I can live with the cacophony of that steam-hammer stainless basket before I spend any money..

  6. My genuine RS steel clutch cover after a "slide" at Clearways....

  7. Which side did you slide on? Clutch side? :Bag:

    Whoa! Just askin' like!

Avanti/Antonye is a good sort and I am happy to deal with him on occasion :upyeah:

  8. I wasn't watching at the time...my face was planted on the surface of the track sliding along at a fair rate of knots!
However, had I taken the time to investigate the dynamics of the crash in slow-mo, I reckon you are completely correct!
I had standard clutch pressure plate with springs sticking out just waiting for it!
    Cheers.

  9. if this is a road bike (don't think OP does trackdays) not sure it matters much as if he's crashed it he'll be far more worried about all the other damage! And ins claim will ensue..

  10. Correct. I have no plans to do any serious track riding on the Ducati. Its too loud for most tracks and I've spent too much money on it.
Its a road bike and if I stuff it the health of the clutch will be the least of my worries. Crashes on the Queen's highway tend to be more about impacts than slides.
I was looking for track bike but I went and blew everything on a new KTM. I used to have more money than sense but not any more. I've reached parity. :Asshat:

  11. Even a minor fall will destroy the whole clutch if you have a carbon cover. Don't ask me how i know.

A decent alloy one will offer some protection and certainly more than a carbon cover.

  12. Could they not make the carbon cover fit over a steel or alloy one?

  13. If you wanted a carbon lookalike steel cover then you could always buy a proper carbon wrap kit (not the vinyl wrap type) and lay that over a steel cover.

  14. I would bet a quid that they get their carbon from Slovenia and / or China, based on the prices. I think if you want to stay high end you are safer with the usual known brands, or just get the cheapest you can find on ebay. Unless I am wrong, of course, and Avanti get their carbon from one of the posher factories

  15. Its the impact that kills carbon, look at a F1 car when it crashes. Carbon with Kevlar reinforcement will have a better abrasive resistance, but still crap upon impact. As mentioned, alloy with carbon cover, you could even wet lay real carbon over the top and cut.
