Average mileage??

  1. Howdo!

Can anyone tell me the baseline for average mileage per year and is it laid down anywhere? The reason I ask is after hitting a river of diesel I came of me poor Gixxer 1000 k5 (Mint condition 2005 - 27,000 miles) KGM insurance has stated the bike is high mileage with the average being 2500 miles per year (Quoting the Glass guide). 15000 - 17000 miles, hence an offer I'm not quite happy with

    Any info welcome.

    Cheers Pablo

  2. i guess it will be what they decide is high mileage. keep arguing, bastards

  3. I would have said between 3000 and 3500 miles a year. But what did you tell them you'd do?

  4. Tell them to go back to school and do their sums right.

    2500 miles x 8 years = 20,000

  5. An average of 2,500 p/a is ludicrous, I do 6,000 to 7,000 most years and sometimes more. Although I suppose a few people who only ride down to the pub two or three times a year when the sun shines will fairly knock the average down. God knows what the insurance might have offered me for my 2003 ST4s with 50,000 on it?

  6. This is bollox. Insurance companies are such a cunch of bunts. When you renew insurance, they ask how many miles a year you do. They should stick to what was agreed in the insurance policy which is a binding contract...

sorry to hear of your off. Hope you and the bike get better soon...

  7. I know what they offered for a 45k 1000DS from 04. From mint to ruined panels (no other damage not even a bent peg) in few seconds and paid out attempt (based on their perceived value) by insurance was a joke so they wanted to scrap it.

  8. But even that is a joke 3k miles in London is far more dangerous then 10k touring Europe.

Same someone living in London declaring 3k but using bike only for touring outside the city.

Best is if you do TD your insurance does not cover you during that time but odo goes up. If you were to have an off later you might exceed your average ....

Average mileage serves only one purpose to get you a higher premium.
