Having got myself a k4 750 trackbike after a 7yr gap away from trackdays, has it moved on regarding standards, tyres riders use ,always ran in inters so I'm no expert , noticed no limits seem to be one of the most popular still,I'm based in West Yorkshire so mainly did Caldwell,Donnington,Oulton Park. So all advise welcome regarding tyre choice, trackday companies and anything else I may of missed..
Enjoy. See you at Donny EDIT. Tyres. Personal choice. Warmers or not? Road legal track tyres or Super Corsa type? I ran Metz TD Slicks this year and very impressed. I also have used S22s and Rosso Corse 2. All are good. Warmers apparently extend the tyre life, even road tyres. Companies. Track days have been really busy as Eu travel has been limited. So IMHO there is no discernible difference, unless you get to Silverstone which is a different class. Many of us hook up on various days so keep your eyes on the track days postings.
Having never used warmers I'm unsure as cadwell don't tend to have elec points so that would mean I'd need a genie, was looking at good sticking road tyres, will hopefully meet up with a few trackday warriors off the forum
Never used warmers, just SC Pirellis. CBA with all the faff and extra hassle with warmers - just take it easy for a couple of laps and then fine. Just do TDs for a bit of fun as I ain’t no racer so my lil’ ol’ Baby R is good enough for me.
Tyre prices have gone mental and there’s a lot more dickheads. Otherwise it’s business as usual. Welcome back.
Noticed lots of folk using wetter water or dropping coolant and just using distilled during the season anybody used or tried this product??
Apologies in advanced @Deano69 but where's Caldwell and Donnington? Never heard of them mate There are tracks called Cadwell and Donington Park
Racing you aren’t allowed coolant so most run plain water. Obvs in winter it’s then best to add anti freeze when not is use. Trackdays it isn’t necessary but if it’s a track bike it’s worth doing still
I have a CBR600RR and run Metz TD slicks. Excellent tyre and I always buy new because they last me 5 or 6 trackdays. Spend your money on improving brakes (M/C, pads and fluid) and suspension and if you have any money left a slipper clutch and quick action throttle. I have a suitcase generator and tyre warmers, wets on wheels (never used them!), a small selection of tools and fuel. Remember fluids (water) and food (healthy stuff) that you can nibble on throughout the day. There are a few trackday companies out there, the ones i use are MSV, No Limits, Focused Events and Loose Cannon. Remember to book early to avoid disapointment. Main bit of advice is to go and enjoy the day. Don't think about it too much or over complicate it, it will only stress you out and that's when mistakes can happen (talking from experience).
I never used to do the last session for 3 reasons: 1. All the tracks are a long drive from down here so required an overnight stay the night before and a long drive home after the event, so usually skipped the last season to get away. 2. That’s when most of the crashes happen, totally ruining the great day you’ve had and I’ve a long drive home to sulk about it or worse, staying up there longer than planned (hospital) 3. Not fit enough/too full of tea to go the distance……(see no.2)
