Hi guys Recently decided I had to get back on a bike after a 20 year break. I rode bikes for 17 years before being forced into a car. We have a Triumph dealer near us in Rushden so I had a look there and eventually saw a Diavel at another local dealer and that was that really..................... I was shocked that a £10,000 used bike only had a 3 month warranty. There was no option to increase the warranty and the only third party warranty provider seemed to cover very little for £400 a year. After a few calls I found a new one for 3 grand more. Bit of a no brainer that one. I decided to have a Bike Trac fitted, a tank protector and the end bungs for the frame by the dealer before delivery, which I hope will be in the next few days. Although the Diavel will be garaged I still want a cover but the £200 Ducati cover has no reviews on-line. Does anyone own one? Is there another someone can recommend? Everything was 100% positive right up until last night. Whilst checking the cost of bike tax I entered the reg number into a tax and MOT checker and found the dealer has only put 6 months tax on the bike. The full year was £26 more. Unbelievable. And words will be had in the morning........... I guess an order over £14K wasn't enough. Very excited about the bike and haven't things changed in the last 20 years? Trackers, ABS, traction control, choose your own engine map. Brilliant. The gear isn't cheap though if you want the best... Don't tell the wife
Welcome Dave to the world of all motor vehicles. Dealers are like bookies.........you never really win, whatever the circumstances. Doesn't matter what they are they cost money to own and run.
Welcome Trevor, One of the big changes in the last twenty years is the traffic now. Be careful and keep safe.
Thanks for all the replies. Yes the attitude of drivers and the general road volume and road conditions certainly are a concern. I also trained as a driving instructor a few years ago so might have more of a chance than most. I gave it up whilst teaching for 6 months after realizing me and 17 year olds were not a good match...... The final straw was a 17 year old young lady who had just received my "Approaching the car & Entering the car" lecture and then walked straight out into the middle of the road and proceeded to take off her high heels to put on something more sensible whilst traffic was hurtling past. She was delivered home and I quit. I just spoke to Martin at Ducati Manchester and have resolved the tax and Datatag issue. Apparently I should have been told what the on the road price consisted of. The Datatag is already fitted to the bike. In return for sending him my new Datatag I will be getting the very nice Ducati cover that is £200. Now I just need to get the bike delivered
Whilst I think about it. I am a TV Engineer but now specialize in repairing GHD hair straighteners. I have a You Tube channel for my own TV engineers forum which has private repair videos for them and then general public videos. Trevs_Shed I have added a second You Tube channel called Mid-Life (Crisis) Bikers, I thought it was quite amusing, and was pretty much going to review everything that I have bought to get back into bikes again and to also cover everything that a returning older biker might need to know. Does any one think that would be a useful thing to do and would help other returning bikers???????
