Got the following from No Limits in a email this morning. I actually missed it until a mate pointed it out. No biggie for me as I use one, but in case you don’t, you have been warned. Christmas pressie to yourself? “From 1 March 2022 back protectors will become essential for those wishing to ride on track, in the same way that front brake lever guards are required for your pride and joy, we believe you should ride with the best available equipment to reduce the risks of serious injury if an accident were to occur. Please also note that in an update to circuit and insurance regulations, from the same date, a motorcycle licence will now be required at all circuits; however at Anglesey, Croft, Lydden and Mallory Park we will accept restricted/A1 licences as well as any valid ACU discipline licence as proof of competency. At MSV circuits, as has been the case for a number of years, they will continue to require either a full DVLA motorcycle licence or a valid ACU Road Race licence.”
Good question. I have the RST airbag suit and that has a physical back protector alongside the airbag so that’s ok. Not sure about other brands. What’s the betting airbag suits are compulsory within 4 years?
I thought they were mandatory anyway. either way, you can rest comfortably knowing that nobody will ever check
Me too Jack. RST Pro Series. For track days at least I think that would be reasonable. The tech is there and now relatively cheap so I don't see why not.
I hope not to have to 'test' mine, but good to know it works well. I've read nothing but good things and for £650 (I think you can find them a little cheaper now), I put my brand snobbery aside (wanted Dainese/AStars, but couldn't get a non-bagged suit for that price!) and went for it.
Rst’s stuff has come a long way in the last few years. It used to be pretty shit, Can’t really knock it these days although I still think the gloves and boots are pony.
I was all set to buy a rst airbag suit, until I spoke to a few people who said the quality of the sticking is not great. I went for 4sr in the end with an alpinestars racetech air vest.
As a matter of interest, is that folks that own one? Stitching on mine seems fine and the reviews would say otherwise. I've not seen poor stitching mentioned anywhere.....
Personal choice? Wearing an airbag suit/ jacket etc or back protector is only beneficial to the wearer, thus the reverse is also true. I'm not at all sure thats its anyone else's business TBH. I expect there are a great many riders who also do not have £650 to spend on one either.
Probably. I have the Alpinestars tech air and it has an integral back protector. At least I think it does…
Tried very hard to get Google to give me an answer to that but the only reference to "mandatory air bags" is in MotoGP and since 2018. My memory is telling me BSB were/are/have talked about mandatory air bags but I cannot find that in the regulations. Andy
If you fall off does the airbag ALWAYS deploy and if so does it have a full spine back protection? If not I’d think it’s protector plus airbag
