Hi All Im going to be doing a few track days this year on an 848 and am looking at getting a back protector. Ive got the small ones for jackets but am looking for a separate full back jobbie. I appreciate the advice is going to be to try a few on but has anyone had good or bad experiences with specific makes? Many thanks Alistair
Forcefield L2 the most comfortable in terms of shape (it molds to your back), but lacks breathability and can get hot. I also use it for skiing. Forecefield L4 too thick and bulky. Alpinestars ok. Dainese Wave would be my choice if not the Forcefield. Comments based on direct experience having owned and used them at some point.
I got one of these recently Protector Bike Scooter Dainese Back & Scapole Wave 12 Con Scapole L | eBay from this very place at way less then RRP and I love it. I tried on a few options but this felt the most secure and fitted my shape the best. Try one on for size though. Mine came from Italy and I had it within about 3 days. Absolutely faultess service and I like the protector. It's a lot more noticeable than the in-jacket ones I've used for years and years, but I'm used to it after only 2 rides and am really pleased with it. Andy edit - this one is a large but there are various places selling them, or you can save a bit and go for the smaller one without the shoulder blades.
Love my LS2 - they do a woman's version which is narrower between shoulder blades Wearing when had smidsy did its job and they feel very secure
As suggested, you really need to try different ones on. I use a Knox back protector for racing and it's been fine.
I've use back protectors for over ten years now and I've had two Knox ones (use one now for snowboarding) and I was bought a new Forcefield L2 for Xmas. (It was a RiDE best buy I think) Equally comfortable, and I would never ride anywhere without wearing one.
Mine's also a Forcefield, and I can't recommend them enough. They really do mould to the back shape, and it's really comfy - once on you forget it's there. I bought it after reading a test review which it won (MCN?).
Thanks guys. I'm going to try a few out and see which fit best/feel most comfortable. Its good that no ones got anything really negative to say about any make.
