Hi everyone, just joined the forum and have been following various threads for a few days. Looks like a nice community here. I owned a 998S from new in 2002, but sold it after 9 months out of frustration due to lots of problems. It was a Friday bike, as I knew lots of people with Ducs that didn't have such a horrid experience. Ducati didnt give great service back then, and the dealer couldnt fix it for ages, so i was also unlucky with my choice of dealer. But I've missed her sorely ever since. So finally I'm getting another Duc. I'd love a Panigale but can't afford it right now (starting a new business soon). But found a 1999 996 at Snells that looks good, and have put a deposit down. I'm contemplating a few mods that I'd appreciate opinions on: - Full Monty and 996 Grunter work including lightened flywheel (Snells now do this work that Sigma Performance developed): I'm interested in the performance gains, but also the thorough mechanical going-over the bike will go through which should spot any issues and give me a bit more peace of mind on the reliability front; the full Monty includes a front fork rebuild - 42 tooth Sigma slipper clutch - Nitron Race (or Track?) rear shock Has anyone here had experience of Nitron shocks? Is the Race model shock worth the extra over the Track one? Lighter wheels would be nice but out of budget for now, but I've been salivating online over the Oz wheels products... I plan to use the bike for track days and summer ride-outs mainly, so want to optimise the setup for track work as I don't mind a stiffer setup on the road (within reason). cheers, Thomas
@ Mattmccacabebrown: It might sound like I'm serious about my track days, but the truth is my skill level has plenty of room for improvement before the bike becomes the limiting factor for quicker lap times! Hope to see you on track soon though...
Nope. parents are Italian. I was born and raised in the NE and I now live in Holmfirth, West Yorks. Although I can speak Italian fairly fluently (or at least a dialect) .......me puede hablar un poco de español
Nei did the Grunter spec to my 996 and it transformed the bike - well worth doing. It was quite the animal.
My Spanish was fluent, but a bit rusty now. Our neighbour in Madrid was Italian and became a good friend of ours. She seemed to become fluent in Spanish in no time, I gather the language is easy for Italians to learn. Hasta luego, Thomas
