Not good, hope that you have a good relationship with your dealership. And that ducati-uk see this scenario as a opportunity too show a lot of good-will. I'd certainly like a gander at the video' Barry Stay calm
Did it re start on both cylinders, if not possible belt broken. TbH i would NOT start up or even turn the engine over in order to avoid any further damage as we dont know whats wrong, Best of luck and keep us in the loop. As already stated I think the Honda dealer has a duty of care, did they sell it as serviced up to date etc?
By coincidence I have just replied to another thread with this same story. I had a 2010 ABS which, like yours, went on to one cylinder and then quit completely. I was In Italy on an Autostrada. I checked the fuses and one had blown (I think it was ignition or fuel injection.) I replaced it with the lighting fuse and that got the bike going on one cylinder for a mile or so before failing. It turned out there was a short in the wiring loom, under the tank near the top frame tube on the LH side where it took quite an acute bend, which took a Ducati dealer four weeks to find! I don't think my bike was a priority to them................I've not heard of any other failures like that but as a first year production bike I wouldn't be surprised to hear of another.
Main bearings apparently - something to do with the cases that theyre seated in....im going from memory but someone will be along to correct me soon...one lad on here (having a senior moment here) had his multi rebuilt twice from bearings....as i say im going from memory...when i say lucky i mean lucky as in it might just be electrical...
I'm not hearing this bang mate. It's a bugger to start though eh... if the battery voltage is good then I'd wonder if your starter sprag clutch is failing. When this happens it makes the bike slow to turn over - so it takes longer to start, which drains the battery, which makes it slower to turn and on it goes. Also when the sprag is failing it is not unusual for the bike to kick back or misfire and this can make a noise that sounds like a loud bang, and also the sprag suddenly catching can make a loud bang type noise inside the left hand engine case. Is it just me or is there actually no bang on your video?
OK the windows have just shattered and I'm not hearing this bang. The time you posted above - is that when you're saying the bang happens? Sounds like a 125 mate, cool.
Get it running and pull whichever spark plug cap or coil cap is easiest to get to, if the engine stops then it is other cylinder that is not working, obviously if it continues to run then the one you pulled it the dud. Check for moisture or water in the recesses and clean them out, swap the spark plugs between the cylinders and see if the fault moves, if the fault doesn't move then swap the coil packs if possible and try again.
I dont think theres much wrong with your engine, I'm saying ignition circuit, I had a similar problem but the only diffrence was mine was ok in nutral, it was the stand switch full of water, but it went almost the same as yours just did. try giving the leads to your coils a wiggl and check their dry, the oil on your plug could just be where its not firing and building up fule and carbon.
alot of engines get white in the oil if they only do short runs like 20 miles or so each day, the oil dosent have time to heat up and evaporate the moisture that the engine draws in with the air through the gear box breather. I dont have any because my Comute it 60 miles each way. but I bet a few low milage a day riders have a white window when the engine has cooled. Hows your coolant look? to stop an engine I think it would be almost empty or at the very least a dirty scummy looking coolant I'm not saying your not right but dont just look at the worst case senario.
Usually signifies nuclear war. It means that the bike isn't used much, used for short trips etc - oil isn't getting hot enough.
