I'm trying to get the bar end weights off to try a bar end mirror. They wont shift just like the rear wheel nut wouldn't shift. Am I missing something? Are they just supposed to release off with a big Hex key in the end of the weight? Or is there something else. I don't want to force or bend anything. Help appreciated.
One of mine was easy enough to get off, the other took a 3 foot breaker bar and the weight of my skinny carcass to get it to move. There's plenty of red thread locker on them so they do take some moving.
Um, end-WEIGHTS.... did you never wonder why Mr. Ducati spent his money fitting them if a nice shiney, cheap bung was all that was needed ? They form the function of mass-dampers to give give minimised transitory shocks and vibration through the bars. In effect they lose any 'jitteryness' you could suffer from without them. Frankly, you should consider fitting heavier ones and attach your bar-end mirrors to them, rather than instead of them. It's a trick you can use on vibrating mirrors (if you can get inside them). Fill them with something heavy... lead-shot, lumps of roofing lead, etc. It kills the high frequencies and smoothes things out nicely. Of course you can overdo it and end up with mirrors that unadjust themselves over every bump, so moderation in all things methinks.
Yes I realise bar end weights perform a function, that's why I weighed it when I got it off and weighed the mirror, which also has an end weight. The mirror + weight weighed slightly more than the standard, so I'd say that's a result.
Since I am being mocked and chasened, may I add that you might also consider fitting tiny wheels or perhaps castors to your carefully weighted mirror/bar-ends ? It would take the uncertenty away during spirited cornering and strong cross-winds !
