Battery Change

  1. Went shopping for a new battery today for the SL.
As I rarely check the electrolite level (hence the need for a new battery), I was going for an AGM type.
However the guy in the battery shop advised against replacing a 'wet' battery with anything different, as the charging requirements are different.
I'm not sure he's right - surely charging requirements are determined by the battery's need, rather than the battery type?
    Thoughts/comments/experience appreciated.

  2. bought a agm motobatt battery for my ss last year
not the cheapest but so far damn good

    definetly recommend it :upyeah:

  3. I think your right, surly an AGM battery dose the same as a lead acid battery. It's like petrol, two types but ones better than the other but slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for!

  4. I gave a motobatt too, I find them a very good option.

  5. I've been lucky, then...........My battery is a cheap Rob Hunter Yuasa lookalike, lead acid wet type.........

From receipts I have, it was fitted at least two years before I got the bike and I have had the bike for 5.5 years, so it's getting on for 8 years old......

Charged it three times and topped it up three times since I have had it......I think it may be failing a bit on one cell, but it has been like it since I got it.

On that basis, I can't see the sense in spending out on anything 'better'.....

....if there is such a thing and not just more expensive.

  6. Things all - AGM it is then.

  7. Yuasa from MDS batteries at Enfield is good deal. If you buy from them through Amazon you don't pay pp. next day delivery.
