Bought myself some connectors for the wired in chagrining point on my 2014 MTS. Put a multi metre on to the plug to determine Pos & NEG but no joy unable to get a reading from any of the pins. Anyone came across this or have information which is Pos & Neg and if there is no feed direct to the battery how does it work
Wired in charging point? If you mean the power outlets, they are only active when the ignition is on. The Ducati charger connects to the diagnostic socket. Pin 1 is +12v, pin 2 is ground, pins 3 & 4 are Canbus Hi and Lo from the ECU. I'd be very careful if mucking about with that.
No the plug I'm looking to use is the one illustrated in the hand book and has only 2 pins located next to the battery
It's not shown in the wiring diagram and I have an earlier bike that doesn't have one. So can't help sorry.
They are just wired straight to the battery normally, no additional electronics, just wires - I put in my own as wasn't going to pay the "Ducati Tax" for what is essentially the same thing I already had. If there's no voltage at all (and assuming you have your multimeter correctly set - DC/AC?) then I would go with the ring connectors not being attached to the battery OR the fuse is dead. On those pictures, middle right looks like the battery terminal connector to me with the rings on the end
Are you sure it connects directly ? I see no additional battery connection other than what goes of to the 30A. I may be wrong but I am sure CJS connected to this when doing the mapping as he did not use the diag connector. So I assume it also sits on the canbus.
Could be, I am just going off every other charger I have had - never needed anything other than a direct battery connection, and is how I have my CTEK unit connected. Seems odd that it includes ring terminals in the pack, unless that is for retro fit to other models, we are a little "spoilt" on the MTS?
I'd reckon the ring terminals are definitely for retrofit to other models. The charger kit seems to come with a cable that will plug into the Delphi 4 pin diagnostic socket on Multis, Panigales, Diavels with the Mitsibushi ECU as well as Monsters and Hypers with the Siemens unit. It also has an alternative cable with ring terminals for fitting directly to the battery to connect to older models. Yet the socket in the picture from the handbook looks like a Superseal connector! How many pins has it got? If that's the one CJS used for the the mapping it must definitely have the canbus connections to communicate with the ECU.
I may be mistaken but I'd assume that Ducati would fit a plug compatible with their charging system. It has a 2 pin plug with a male and a female terminal. or it uses the diagnostic connector like the larger connector in this picture The connectors on my bike are these; On the left is a 3 pin Superseal connector for the ABS diagnostic On the right is a 4 pin Delphi connector for the ECU diagnostic In the centre is a 2 pin Superseal connector which provides a direct connection to the ECU and is marked "Melco" I'd have thought that would be what CJS might use to re-map the ECU. It has no connection to the battery. The later 2014 bike may have a specific battery charging connector but it's not shown on the diagram and why would they make it incompatible with their own charger?
The connector in the centre with the blank is the one shown in the manual. Confusing to say the least will check with the dealer in the new year to what they say.
Yes, definitely check it out. If it's the one I think it is it would be a bad idea to connect 12v across it. Have a good break.
Thanks Derek . The two pin in the middle of the picture is the one I was talking about. I dont recall seeing the three pin. All very confusing.
Another hurdle for independent specialists! Definitely don't want to put +12v down the two wires :Blackeye:
Guys, stop the worry of using wrong connectors and try this. Locate and replace the switched positive wire from the right accessories socket and connect it to the positive + 12v battery terminal via a 5 amp in line fuse. Buy a corresponding plug for the accessories socket from an auto parts shop and connect it to your charger leads ensuring the positive + is connected to the centre terminal. Simple and easy access without removing the seat...both parts cost about $8.00 AU.
