1200 DVT Battery Clamp

  1. Afternoon,
So I'm trying to remove my battery to replace it and fit charger tails but I cannot get the screw to come out. I have a 2017 1200s so the battery is laying on its side towards the rear of the seat with a retaining strap held in by a single screw which just rotates, I can see a small square hole down the side of the frame so I'm guessing there is some sort of nut under there but access seems impossible....I've applied some pressure under the screw head whilst turning it but still rotates, any ideas other than drill it out ?

  2. I had the same problem.
IIRC I had to forcibly pull the screw out. I think I disconnected to other end of the strap, which you can do by carefully bending/flexing it to get it out of its slot, and then levered the recalcitrant screw upwards. That jammed the insert further up the hole and in a position where the insert gripped and I was able to carefully unscrew out of it.
That left me with drilling the insert out. In the process the drilling enlarged the hole and the partially destroyed insert came out. I had bought a replacement insert and some two-part plastic putty in readiness. So I put the mixed putty into the bottom of the hole, screwed the new insert onto the end of the screw and applied vasaline to the screw threads above to stop the putty potentially cementing the screw into the hole. Then I pushed the insert/screw into the hole and into the putty and left it to set.
The description seems long winded but if you have an ounce of nowse you'll see what I mean.
Good luck, it worked for me.

  3. Thanks for replies.
I managed to drill the screw head out and remove the brace but the threaded bit of the screw is still in situ and just spins if I try and drill any further so I've painted it black to blend in with the plastic and will secure the brace with a cable tie.
Took me 15 mins to fit centre stand and Evotech crash bungs and nearly 2hrs to remove a damn battery brace screw

  4. But at least you didn’t waste time just eating mince pies instead!

  5. i had this happen on my 2018 1260s ... the factory had overtightened the battery strap bolt when they were assembling the bike.

i noticed this the day i rode the bike home, and tried to install a battery tender pigtail connector/lead on the bike, and the bolt just kept on spinning, as the threaded insert had been striped away from the under seat compartment tray plastic.

pointed this out to the dealership, and they advised they had a few other Multis come in for this exact issue, and that Ducati would cover the replacement cost (labour and parts). a week later, the issue was resolved with a new under seat compartment tray and a new strap bolt.

Update: I found the service work records -
    US$637.92
    4 hours labor, plus parts:
    77214411AA - Screw
    83019202A - Bracket, Battery Band
    8291D181B - Battery Holder
4601D451A - Battery Mount Heat Guard
