Does an Optimate 4 (CanBus programme) maintainer charge directly through the Hella 12v Socket on a MS V4? (like on a BMW GS)
I’m pretty sure it doesn’t, I use a lead from the battery tucked under the seat and plug the charger into that.
You have to either have the Ducati charger which plugs into the diagnostic port under the rider’s seat, or, what most do, is fit the fly lead for an Optimate/ctek/Noco/whatever your choice is direct to the battery and run it under the frame and outside. It saves taking the seat off each time (which if you have heated seats involves constant unplugging/plugging in. The flylead fits neatly into the triangle of trellis frame just behind the reg/rec, on the RH side, below the seat.
That’s what the dealer did on mine, on my 1260 I plugged into the diagnostic port but they said that wasn’t recommended on the V4?
