As I've tried to start my 1198 this evening the battery is totally dead - dash, lights, the lot. It's only been 2 weeks since i last used it, and that was a decent run - 40 miles or so as a guess. The bike has never had a problem with starting in the past, even when left for longer, and with colder temperatures. The only thing i can think i did different last time was i tried the Data Analyser (i removed the data stick afterward). The bike is a 12 plate, so the battery is not (officially) 12 months old. I'm pretty sure i didn't leave the key in the sidelight position.... I'll try the battery on an Optimiser this week at work, and see it is ruined. Hope not - although id prefer the battery to be buggered than the bike's electrical system! Would the DDA have caused this? I'm hoping it's just me thats been a halfwit! Thanks folks! ps i got no joy with DDA either last time, to add insult to injury - but that was probably my fault!
I know the data logger will drain the battery if you leave it plugged in, but, as you didn't, it can't be that. There might be a problem with your regulator/rectifier, I know there was a recall on some of the earlier 1098 models.
I don't see how though. It's only a memory stick, doesn't require charging and with out looking at a wiring diagram I'd doubt it has a permenant live to it. worth noting though incase it does. Better to be safe than sorry.
Just searched the net on this and it appears a lot of 1199 owners in the US are experiencing this. Apparently the module still listens for data, even though the ignition is off leading to a flat battery in 7-10 days. i was wrong, I'm sorry. I'll get me coat!
The data stick was back in the house with me, after I'd tried (and failed) to download the information. I'm not sure why I'd didn't work, but that's a whole new thread...
