Battery Uncharging

  1. hi guys
my 750 SS is loosing battery power while standing still.

it uncharges with around -0,3Amps all the time, the only thing coonect to the battery on stand still is the starter circuit. Has anyone experienced the same?

    regards Jens

  2. Yes, but mine was a usb lead

  3. Knackered battery??

  4. Are you measuring this discharge in series with the positive battery lead and the only thing connected is the starter circuit?
    Does it have an alarm....?
0.3A is a 3.6Watts... so quite a lot of power..... (if you don't believe me hot the hot end of a 3W soldering iron).

    PS
    It's called discharge or drain.

  5. He's measuring it.... self discharge wouldn't be measured in Amps (well not directly).

  6. Try disconnecting the starter solenoid cable from the battery, or the cable from the starter if that's easier. If the current stops then there must be leakage to ground through the solenoid and starter. If it doesn't it's elsewhere, possibly through the main relay.

  7. Corrosion across the contacts?... 3 Watts is a great deal of leakage. Something Major is ON/Live

  8. Tracking across solenoid contacts isn't unheard of. It's not caused by corrosion but copper deposits that have been left as a result of arcing at the contacts. Disconnecting circuits in turn is the best way to isolate the leakage and the starter circuit is the easiest to disconnect.
And yes 3W is a fair bit, about the same as 2 dash lamps. You won't solder much with a 3W soldering iron though. The smallest I've seen are usually around 15W

  9. Dodgy rectifier? If it's breaking down it'll allow reverse current flow - an old problem with old car alternator rectifier packs. OP needs to disconnect major components to find the culprit. Not too many to check on the older models:thinkingface: only an alarm (as above) would be a constant current drain.
