Battery - What one to get ?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Dubs, May 22, 2012.

  1. folks

Battery I have is old enough in the 749s I have. I dont think dealer gave me a new one last yr when i bought the bike.

The bike is V slow to turn over, more than it should be ( i think ).

But i believe there are batteries that can handle the heavy engine cmompression to fire the bike up quicker and not drain as quick ?

    Any thoughts / opinions please?

(done a forum search but didnt fnd what i was looking for).

    Cheers.

  2. gel battery, one without acid

acid batteries don't last and are problematic compared to other options

  3. Check your battery voltage & starter cable connections before you commit to a new battery - Doocat starters are notoriously poorly grounded and/or supplied with quality voltage in the first place? Random bootlace earth straps will over time degrade themselves and their connections, causing a slow chugging turnover...

Try a jump lead from the battery earth to the engine earth, this should liven things up! Failing that try a jumplead straight from the battery positive to the starter terminal.

The starter leads can be upgraded with car-type leads for a much better starting experience!
