Dropped bike on the RHS as I was trying to move it around on a slop, it happened so fast, I was not concentrating, and going to slow, I was expecting it one day, just not in front of god knows how many other bikers on the up side loads to jump and pick it up for me, not damage as had crash bars on, though they have a few scratches now, anyhow, at least I know everything works when it goes over and no worries as sure it will happen again, ? has anyone found anything to protect the crash bars? like a crash protector for the crash bars was thinking like a mini version of the R & G crash protector instead f it going into the engine mount it goes in the crash bar end? long enough that the rubber protector takes the damage and not the crash bar?
I'm a little (lot) short of 6 foot as well. I find that keeping the tyre pressures low and wearing my 1970's triple wedges helps !
I just resign myself that getting on and off i'll look a knob, if its a tight u turn or to manoeuvre I push it like a girl, and if I drop it balls; its better to drop it at 3mph than the 103 I'm normally travelling at
You could wrap push bike handlebar tape around it, the padded gel type, if you plan on doing this dropping thing on a regular basis?
A) pull up, dismount (your own style) and wheel it into position; b) get your seat carved out by a motor trimmer to suit your height.
After dropping my 1000RX four times by mis-footing in U-turns etc, I would rather suffer the indignity of dismounting and wheeling it around; than trying to get a leg out from underneath and then trying to lift what felt like four tons back upright.
It did not fall over when I was turning it around, it was after when I was planning my next move around, I do not actually remember what happened, I know it happened dam quick, but I think I was steering right, on a camber and was moving too slow, and the weight transferred over to the right very quick, and just went over, I might have not even had my foot on the ground, it was on slight slope the way I was turning into, so my foot on the right would not have got close anyhow. I have no shame once it started to go, I just jump off, lol, so bike was on the floor, was standing next to it The moving around in general is fine, it is the slow maneuvering when pulling awaythat catches me out if camber is wrong side. Live and Learn. being 5'6 not help though Love the bike to bits, but that will always be my concern, having to stop somewhere quick and the camber is on the wrong side.
Have to get on and off my 748 with the stand down and plan my parking and what not to minimize pushing/chance of dropping. Im 5'6 as well but have been for the 25 odd years that i've been riding so im pretty used to it! That said I did about 10 years back drop my immaculate, newly acquired 900ss in front of a full cop car whist preforming an illegal uturn. Think it was my embarrassment that prevented a ticket. Bout 3 years back I got stuck under my bike on my garden path (pissed, moving bike from garage to rear of house) think I forgot to put my foot out. Had to yell at a passing school kid for help (bout 12yrs old and twice my size!)
Most likely trap for me other than U turns, is mis-footing when crossing a kerb...........I suddenly find I need an extra six inches of leg (and not the middle one, BTW)
Used to get caught on my motor x bike like that all the time! could only just get a toe down on that. had to find the right tree stump or rock to stand on to kick start it..
