Bell Helmets

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Pavey, Oct 27, 2015.

  1. Anybody use one? I quite fancy my next helmet being all red and stopped a guy recently who had one and his was a Bell M6.
Never even held one so unsure of the quality.

    Thanks.

  2. I have used a M4R for the last 5 years, never realised helmets could be so comfy, tried one on at a bike show and was knocked out by the fit, the only drawback for me is wind noise is not great. Otherwise the most comfortable and close fit of any helmet I have used and amongst the best for build quality. A shame they don't make it any more.

  3. Thanks Denzil. The one i am looking at is only £170 aswell, could be much worse.

  4. 5 yrs is a good innings :)

  5. I have an M4R carbon fibre lid I've been using for 3 years and as said its a great fit, brilliant anti fog visor (not pinlock) which gives a great wide field of vision. Super light and comfy however i have heard they can fit some people perfectly and others find them uncomfortable. Ive found mine very quiet on wind noise personally. I did break a visor and found they are very expensive for replacements, at least genuine ones, and at the time no one had any in stock as whole reseller network was waiting for one big batch to be issued by Bell. Luckily i could use my clear visor for a couple of months till one popped up on eBay cheap.

  6. Went for an M5X in red with a white stripe, made for a Ducati. £200 delivered. My Suomy was £500 odd, :(

  7. I never really like buying helmets online without trying them on, but finger crossed. It was from J&S on eBay and there is one just up the road so hopefully will be no issues if i want to return it. Now to hunt for a snazzy visor.

  8. F**k me, the visors aren't cheap!

  9. Nice. Is that one the M6?

Bought them both in January 2015, pretty close match for Ducati red, looks even closer when its on my head, a bit further from the bike!

  11. Thats the one i was looking at, all sold out now.

Certainly looks like a good match :upyeah:

  12. Out of the last 5 crash helmets I have bought 3 have been Bell helmets. Always liked them and i had one of the first full face Bell helmets when they came out in 1971 and were being sold by Shane Hearty.

Currently have an M5X which came as an offer with a tinted visor. A nice quality piece of kit.

  13. I bought a Bell Star Matte Carbon when I bought my Diavel last year, cracking helmet, excellent quality n light as expected. Bought the black visor n it looks the dogs even if it is as u say expensive.

Now I'm back on a multi n prefer my X-4 lid so will probably end up selling the Bell but I'd definitely recommend them.

  14. I use a bell star carbon and a bell moto aswell, both are light and excellent quality.

  15. Interesting to hear that the anti-fog is really good on the M carbon lids. I'm getting really fed up with my Shoei GT Air fogging. Its OK in the middle of summer but now its getting colder its becoming a pain. Set out early for a rideout last Sunday and I had a persistent fog patch over my right eye which made life-savers very difficult. New visors, new pinlock inserts, servicing, cleaning and even a service by Shoei themselves after a warranty claim haven't made much difference.
I love this Bell M6 carbon. It doesn't have a chin curtain so I assumed it would be draftier and noisier than the Shoei but maybe not then? The Shoei is coming up 3 years old. If the Bell isn't going to fog I could be tempted. How well do the vents work? The Shoei's I must admit are excellent.

  16. Got two bell m5x carbon 1954 gold jobbies. Beautiful inner liners but can be tight with top notch thick visor. One is for daytime fun & the other has had refletive tape along the gold stripes for night-riding.

  17. Am I the only one who dies not like the idea of the word "Bell" on his forehead?
