Yup, with the bike having two years bed rest and me being out of commission for nearly as long Bella the Bitch gave her first roar this afternoon!!! i tooled about with fitting a new battery (didnt even bother charging it in all the excitement) and 'de-spiked' the immobiliser expecting the usual alarm nonsense but guess what?? first push of the button, that lazy anvil like turn over, a bit of spluttering and then boom!! forza italia down my trouser leg... battery is flat as a witches tit now of course and all im getting is a bit of relay noise, so on the optimate she goes! fingers crossed tomorrow morning i'll be able to annoy the neighbours and let her warm up for 10 minutes...touch wood i should have the girl re-shod and recommissioned in the next month and find out if my neck can take it...it feels like christmas day...only better.
There is something uniquely special about opening the garage door after a long lay off and firing the beast up. It's like meeting up with an old friend. Hope you get to share some more good times Funky.
Bloody good news, Funkster! Particularly good news that you are feeling well enough to contemplate riding it. Must be milder over with you guys. It's about -2° degrees during the day here with a savage wind chill. I don't feel like going anywhere near my bike. Good guitar weather, though!
What did i say?? What did i fkn say??? Went in this morning after letting the battery charge and....nothing...all im getting is the left relay under the seat buzzing..then i got a few sparks from under the bike.....no indicators or anything..the only electrics that work are the oil warning light and the green neutral light.... Any thoughts?? Ive checked the connections and there was no corrosion inside the relay..i gave it a squirt of WD incase there was any moisture but this hasnt made a difference... Ahh well..it was fun while it lasted....sadly i absolutely hate working on cars and bikes and very little patience in this one department..
Electricity is complicated (dixit me). When you know the battery is on the way out, don't bother trying to understand electrical problems. Save precious time and good humour by jumping immediately to the new battery conclusion. It's bound to come in handy some time, even if it isn't the right answer now. But it will be.
my bike started and then stopped the battery was fooked. would only click relays same as funkeys etc etc. new yuasa battery and all well.
She Lives!! (Part 2) Battery is spankers, only bought it yesterday... i disconnected all the plugs and inspected them, reconnected, unplugged and replugged all the relays, tightened the battery terminals etc etc..and somehow...i dont know why..but she actually started and ran and ran and idled, and ran a bit more!! i never even saw any flames or smelt petrol?!? incredible.. She used to give me a few /untraceable electrical gremlins a few years ago and i thought 'here we go again'..but it looks like im may have gotten away with it...nothing looked corroded or furred up so probably a poor connection when i fitted the new battery... I let her run for a good 10 minutes..next thing i knew i was looking for the autoglym wondering why my frozen hands couldnt unscrew the cap......
When you turned the ignition and tried starting it did you hear the fuel pump prime? Relays can be a bit iffy -
nah..all i got was the underseat relay buzzing ( i think its the one for the ECU)..yesterday all was well...after i tightened and inspected everything, oh and disconnected and reconnected the alarm she primed up no bother..must have been a poor connection somewhere, or i may have disturbed something....im amazed that this has been the only hurdle (so far)...ive had jap bikes that have given me way more trouble trying to start after a layoff... letting her warm up for a good 10-15minutes wont have done her any harm...i didnt go near the throttle...id imagine the cylinders were bone dry..anyway, the engine was roasting hot before i put her back under the blanket(s).. now let me see....oberon master cylinder, pirelli supercorsas, hmmmm..maybe get some new carbon airtubes...just remembered, ive got a pair of pazzos and a carbon airbox in the loft....oh shit...theres also the major service, tax, mot and insurance..bugger....anyway, mot and tax are still optional right? when i put her away, she had just been serviced (belts etc)...is there any need to replace the oil and filter? it looks fresh through the spy glass...
