999 Belt Change Time .

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by chase, Apr 1, 2023.

  1. Hi All
    ,Any info/help appreciated.
I've decided to do the belts myself this time as being semi retired I have time !
    Here are my questions -
1/ What special tools do I need excluding the cam position locking tools e.g crank rotation tool . I do have a pretty extensive tool kit being a maintenance engineer.
2/ Belt tension - 45 degrees twist of belt on its longest run ?
3/ Are Exact fit belts any good or stick with O E M ?
    4/ Any online videos recommended?
    Thanks in advance .
    Chase

  2. Exactfit belts are fine.
    See how to videos here:

Bear in mind though that one needs to turn the crank 270deg fwd rather than 90 deg backwards to tension the vertical cylinder.
Lock tools not strictly necessary and can be a hinderence.

  3. Best tuning app for the frequency/tension check I've found so far and is Spectroid... I found the others just couldn't pick up a regular signal.

  4. Thanks so far guys.

  5. Cheap microphone off eBay that plugs in your phone jack makes pinging the belts much easier

  6. And make sure you tension the pulleys anticlockwise

  7. I much prefer to use the belt tuning section of JPDiag and a small Mic plugged into my Laptop than using my phone.

I find getting an acceptably consistent result with a Phone and App almost impossible, but get a really consistent reading with the Laptop/mic/JPDiag.
