Belts and MOT's

  1. Hello,

Seeking some good advice please to two questions -

    1) Are there any thoughts regarding the replacement of timing belts with non Ducati genuine parts - Now Im normally a stickler for the OEM part however again relatively new to Ducati I wondered if there is any known manufacturer providing Duke with their kit and Duke are badging and price hiking - Welcome opinions or directions plse..

    2) So haven't actually run a Ducati through an MOT before and perhaps a stupid question but am I likely to get a failure getting my 999 through an MOT with Termi's on board or will there be a blind eye or is it dependent on the local station not sure if older bikes are measured or not - Again welcome the wisdon of the forum

Have a good xmas and roll on the fine weather...

  2. I only use Ducati belts others aren't that much cheaper anyway.
Exhausts are at testers discretion, find a friendly mot station.

  3. I only use duke belts(Im paranoid as it is).As stated above find a friendly MOT place that appreciates the symphony that comes from termi.Where abouts are you?

  4. I have dayco belts on mine, and they have held tension superbly. When I change them next Christmas I'll fit whatever Baines supply.

The car has a genuine Honda belt on it, and is good for about 50,000 miles / 6 more years yet.

  5. As said, the price difference between OEM belts and aftermarket isn't that great so i stick with OEM myself.
There always has been a lot of waffle talked about Term's and MOT's. The only 2 things that will get you a fail are a leak, or leaving the "Not for road use" stamp on the end cans.
There is no specified MOT noise test for motorcycle exhaust's, so any tester failing for this reason is not doing a proper MOT. The way to get round the "Not for road use" stamp, is simply to cover it up with electrical tape. An MOT tester is not allowed to remove anything from the motorcycle during an MOT. What they may do is put on the "Advisory notes" that the tape is present and may be covering a "Not for road use" stamp, but the MOT tester can not fail the motorcycle for that reason.
Although there is no specified noise test, there is a fail option for what is termed "Excessive noise". The way round this is just to fit the baffles that come with all Termi's.............................then take them out again when you get home.

  7. Kitfit,

Thank for this informative response - I notice my termis say for 'racing use only' so taking on what you say I will when the time comes I will cover up somehow.. Sounds like I will have to build a rapport with a local station - I dont think my local that does the car does bikes - However make some enquiries at Forzo Italia at Silverstone or Ducati Aylesbury which are my nearest real Italian specialists -

    Have a good Xmas-

    Regards

    Steve

  8. There will be members in North Bucks that can point you in the direction of a decent MOTer.:upyeah:

  9. Ahh yes - That would be useful ......

  10. you can put a small sticker over not for road use the garage are not allowed to remove it its a loop hole

  11. Even better, get cans that are road legal, but have a 'removable baffle' you get the straight through can, with the correct BS stamp on them.

  12. It's easy to polish out the stamp (RACE USE ONLY) using polishing mops and soaps starting with grey working through green, blue, and pink, you'll never know it was there and as Kitfit says put your baffles back in and you shouldn't have a problem with the MOT

  13. Brilliant Guys - Thank you all
