Belts Confirmation !

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by iang27, Jun 6, 2018.

  1. Looking at a Streetfighter 848 which had its belts changed 2 years ago.
Told the sales guy they will need changing to which he has said they don’t as it is now a 5 year belt change interval.

Now I have had 10 Ducati’s and know that the intervals were 2 years and it’s the same belts being used.
He asked his service manage who is contacting Ducati to find out.

Surely a Ducati service manager should know what the correct intervals are.

Unless this is normal for Riders ?

  2. it was 2 years when I had my 2010 Evo...cant see why a street fighter would be different

  3. 848 Street fighter is indeed 5 years. SBK is still 2.

  6. I would say check your belts every 6 months. If theyre showing signs of wear then change them. Im changing mine but only cos the engine is getting rebuilt. Theyve been on there for 3 years in total and are looking fine....

  7. I have always changed mine every 2 years but it was just when the dealer said 5 years I didn’t know if it was correct.
Bartering power if they needed changing !

  8. I now plenty who change every 5years plus. Depends how long its been sat around. Oil changes seem more important

  9. Nope. Not quite... The SF engine runs the 11 degree cams as per MTS etc. hence the 5 year change

  11. 2 years is ridiculous for belt changes, Quality of belts are far superior than they were many moons ago, Saying that i still stick to the 2 to 2 1/2 year change,
5 Years is more like it

  12. I would suggest checking the tension as well as visual checks.
Belts rarely just break, it’s much more likely that a loose belt can jump teeth leading to contact between piston and valves, which then breaks the belt.
In service tension should be 90 Hz

  13. Was just going to say the 848 streetfighter runs the 11degree heads and as such the service interval doubled I believe. If u look up mcn street fighter on YouTube he had one as a long termer and goes through the service schedule and running costs.

Personally I would check them. My 848 has had the belts done and after 2 years there were indeed some small cracks. I’ve got the old belts as proof, I think this is pretty rare though

  14. Here's a pic from the manual . Screenshot_20180606-194449~01.png

  15. My Hyperstrada 821 is 5 years too. :)

    My Panigale is.......never. :) :)

  16. Thanks guys. That makes me look a tit then. I was confident it was 2 years.
Oh well, no discount for that then.

  17. Well, a well known Ducati service shop told me "theyre usually good for about 12k, but if i said that officially id get crucified....but, if you feel you want to change them then go ahead....."

  18. However you probably need a new water pump every couple of thousand miles; if it's anything like my 899 and my mates 959 that has had 2 now!

  19. :(
