998 Ben Bostrom - What Decals/stickers/logos Were On His 998 Race Bike?

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by THJ, Apr 17, 2014.

  1. I've just picked up a 998s Bostrom that a previous owner has gone race rep sticker happy on and added lots of stickers to the bike. Im not convinced by the look myself and will probably leave them on a bit until they get tatty, then remove them all & venture shield the paintwork.

The stickers do not seem consistent with the images that I have found on google - (It was a bit before my time; I got into the whole sports bike scene when the 999's were doing the business Troy in WSB, Greg in BSB) Does anyone who saw any of the Bostrom races recall him having 'PS One' decals on his bike?

  2. I'd be more concerned that a circus clown has thrown his dressing gown over the bike.

  3. Love the bostrom 998 always wanted one , don't think ps one was ever part of the paint scheme , yep very nice

  4. The Bostrum wasn't a replica like the Bayliss 998, more of a tribute.

  5. A full genuine Ben Bostrom race replica set is available here. ducati race

As mentioned it was not meant to reflect the race bike it was just a limited run on bikes paying homage to his time with Ducati.

  6. Ducati couldn't make a full race rep due to the LM cigarette advertising which dominated the side fairings. Instead they took inspiration from his crash helmet.

  7. Thanks for link red, I knew it wasn't an official race rep and just a tribute - I just can't think of any reason why a previous owner would decal it all up.

It does seem to divide Ducatisti in the love/hate camp nearly as much as the design of the 999. I like both :)

  8. I had one and loved it. I really wish that circumstances hadn't forced me to sell it. They do look better in the flesh than the pictures.

  9. Nice bike and don't see many around. In fact ive seen more 996R and 998R bikes around than 998S Bostrom and Bayliss reps.

Looks in nice nick and from what I see I actualy prefer the extra decals.Makes it look more of a race rep like 998S Bayliss.I prefer the proper race bike scheme and wish ducati had stuck with that for Bostrom rep and just replaced the LM fag sponsor with something else rather than helmet design.

  10. ^^^ Cutgraphix who sell the Bostrum original race replica graphics set do a really beautiful Bayliss Imola replica, the silver one that was produced after the 911 bombings. If you read the history of how they researched the graphics along with the others that they sell you realise how much effort they put into producing a quality product.

I have seen just one Bostrum bike outside a pub when I was in Norfolk once and I have never seen one since, they are indeed very rare.

  11. Nice one for the cutgraphix suggestion. Will keep them in mind for future projects.Anyone have a idea who people like rage paint use for there decals and they always look very nice.

  12. Many of the bigger bike specialist painters have their own set-up. Dream machine certainly do and I would not be surprised if Rage did the same.

  14. Wow. I always wanted one with that paint job. Awesome.

  15. Loved mine, it was based on his helmet design of the era and for 5 wins in WSB that year, get rid of those gash stickers and make it beautiful again

  16. Might have to get a sticker kit if i can find one anywhere at a reasonable price! Im not paying $350 for one though!

  17. ^^^ At current rates that is £193.09 as the Australian dollar is higher than the US dollar and only slightly lower than the Canadian. I think the whole Ducati original set would be much more. I agree it is a lot of money for stickers though.

Cutgraphix are the only people I know that sell the actual Bostrom race replica set, it's not really anything like the stock Ducati set.

It should look like the one pictured below.

I reckon it must be really hard to get the matching blue mono seat pad these days, I have seen them go for sill money on eBay.
