So having found myself round the corner from Snetterton track I decided to go and start doing track days. Don’t want to use any of the bikes I own on the track as I no doubt will crash few times as typical first timer before I get better. What do people recommend for a track newbie? smaller bike like 600? Or doesn’t matter and go for standard size? Like fire blade? I was thinking of getting GSXR600SRAD as I always wanted one anyway, but am I being to silly getting such an old bike for track? Really would do with the pointers as money tight at the moment and don’t want to buy wrong thing and having buy another one straight after!
08- fireblade is perfect mate, cheap to run loads of parts 2nd to fix it if the worst happens. But could say the same about all the Japanese bikes really. I've used both 600 and 1000 on the track. Personally I found the 1000 easier but that's because I'm lazy on a bike. There are people quicker than me riding 600's. If you buy an older bike your end spending more on it as things ware out quick on track. Try and buy one that's already been built your save alot of money unless you enjoy building up bikes.
Yeah, that’s what I thought . I always found bigger bike easier to ride. And 22 year old bike is asking for trouble really… So blade. Not gsxr 1k? I thought they meant to be better?
Late as you like. They can be picked up fairly cheaply. Having said that I got an L6. @Cream_Revenge has a K8 that he loves.
Something like this:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-G...p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
My 749 that’s in road trim at the moment, take all the road bike stuff off and sell that off. Take the Standard plastics off too flog them off too and buy cheap replicas off e bay.
oh power slide, see their van quite often outside OMG’s headquarters in Cannock having bikes fettled.
Yes. Biggest uk Suzuki dealer I think. I don’t know them or the bike. Think Adam got his GSXR1000R from them.
I'm hoping the 749 is good enough for me. Bought a track ready one a year ago that's en route next week to Baines for some fettling before I get it out with @Expat Jack el al in march
they’re not far from me up in Stoke just off M6 junction 15, Ducati dealer right next door. Power slides showroom dwarfs Ducati, power slides a supermarket and the Ducati dealers a corner shop. Ducati Stoke must be the smallest motorcycle showroom in the whole of the world. If you want to change your mind you have to step outside.
I started on a R6, the 600 was more than enough for me and taken me a few years but can finally keep up with some 1000's in inters now over the course of a lap at Snett and Silverstone which favour power bikes so getting somewhere. Big difference in riding style between the two but I had more fun riding the wheels of an R6 than barely using the big bike the one time I tried it I will admit, the R6 is still capable of allot more than I can do with it and probably ever could So bought a 959 to setup as a track bike for this year after having a V2 as a road bike for a while. Bit of a mid way before possibly moving to a v4 in a few years if I do well with the 959 (It might the be R6 is my limit never know till try it)
I had a 675 Triumph and 959 track bikes. The 959 was quicker but the 675 felt quicker. Because you had to thrash it everywhere
