I've asked for this for xmas, as I got some good feedback from someone who has one. Halfords have them @£120 down from £150, maybe cheaper with your card. I can't give you a review until after Santa has been though. Nextbase Dashcam 512GW
Next base ones are very difficult to use in my humble opinion. I had one, it went back as the internal battery failed. When it came back it went in my wife's car. I moved on to Snooper 4HD afterwards. really easy to operate, touch screen, speed camera detection, lane drift detection and a few other functions, couldn't be happier with it. I personally wouldn't go back to nextbase I purchased my Snooper from Car electronics Nottingham but I remember seeing the 4HD in Maplins recently. My only beef with the 4HD is the mount for it was pants. I think I ended up using a next base mount
Haha...I definitely recommend having a look. The Nextbase I had/have I got for a great price as I used gift vouchers and got Halfords to price match. It served its purpose but to do anything on it/make changes meant getting the manual out and this became regular as the battery let go. The HD4 was a breeze. I think I set it to power down 30 seconds after it detects power loss (ignition live) My neighbour used to fit car alarms and stereos so I get him to hard wire it. He always runs a switched live and chases the power cable around the roof lining and down the internal door trim so all thats exposed is an inch or so of cable at the camera. http://shop.snooperdirect.com/produ...MInv3R7qqO2AIVip3tCh2cMg3NEAQYASABEgIOEvD_BwE Shop around you may find it cheaper
Why on earth you anyone want to film their daily trudge to the shops? Haven't some people got more interesting things to be getting on with?
I've used it to double check for camera flashes, caught a cyclist topple over at the lights as he couldn't get out his cleat fast enough (Priceless) but mostly as if some cock pulls out at a junction. I believe there was a time when people would remove brake lights and have you run up their arse so they could claim whiplash...... All up they are a liability camera
It's like an episode of Wacky Races around here somedays, especially leaving or going to work. Also, my car was hit while parked a while back, and the unknown person(s) did a runner, so it could be handy. But most of all, I can't think of a thing I want for xmas.
There are a lot of insurance fraudsters out there unfortunately and even more dumb shits. I think someone posted a thread last week about taking a ride in a colleagues car who pulled out at a round about and her response was "I was there first"
Forgot to mention, the really handy thing is that both cameras default to a GPS speed screen after a short while so not to present a distraction. The GPS is really handy especially at speed cameras. Its surprising how inaccurate car speedo's for the UK car are I find that 30 GPS speed will equate to about 33/34 mph on the 1 series
Mines an older generation unit, must be 2 years old now. If I were to get another one I'd definitely check out how easy they are to operate and cycle between functions. Nextbase seem a very popular brand now and they repaired my old unit no quibble. There are a good range and availability of accessories
The Mrs wants a Blackvue 2 camera system. They seem over priced at circa £370. The hardware in all of them is basic, 1080p camera, SIRF3 gps and accelerometers are commoditised chipsets now. ~£100 feels about right these days.
£370 is extreme. I'd go as high as £150. Technology is constantly advancing. All up the camera discreetly sits behind the mirror as a watchdog in the unfortunate events that hopefully may never happen. The GPS speed function is helpful and the camera warning has helped, its no road angel but I don't really want to clog up my windscreen with gadgets. The thought is always there "do I take it out the window when I park" I've not heard of scrotes popping windows to pinch dash cams but its only a matter of time.
Unfortunately I drive in London. Twice this year our vehicle has been struck by people speeding and performing illegal undertakes, then trying to squeeze through a too small a gap. Both tried to claim for medical injuries and for the damage. Both were defeated by the use of dash cam footage. Our van is equipped with the FuneVUE system and a custom 4 channel / 4 camera recorded, as used on buses etc. The funny thing is I have to try and remember to tone down the commentary when these incidents occur. Playing them back while sitting at an insurance desk must be hilarious. "Where the F**K did you get your license.... off a cornflake pack." On a more serious note I've several incidences when a traffic warden has accused me (very loudly) of racially abusing them. When I point out the camera they remove the ticket and walk away without saying a word.
Fair play to you, When you've had a few incidents of not racially abusing traffic wardens I bet you really begin to wonder what's going on? Oh and it's a 'Lucky Bag'.
