996 Best Place To Source Fasteners?

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by dmc12, Feb 1, 2022.

  1. There’s a number of screws and fasteners on my bike which are tired, but perhaps none more offensively than the screws holding on the callipers.

Where does one go to replace such things?

    Thank you!

  3. These calliper ones are all mangled and rounded so probably need replacing I'd have thought. Most of the rest of the stuff could get re-zinced!

  4. Ebay will help you out alot mate. Or just go to the dealer. Doubt there be that expensive. Or if your feeling flush try somewhere like pro bolt or race bolt.

  5. Calliper bolts are safety critical fasteners. OEM or reputable supplier supplied with traceability, Chemistry and mechanical test results. OEM are batch tested and traceable. Brakes, suspension, engine mounts, safety Critical items no brainer saving a few £s.
Lot of crap in the market sold shiny and cheap.

  6. Yep, dealer will pull out the microfiche and get you what you need. I recently had to do the same on stripped rearset bolt. My local guy has his website set up so you can go straight to the diagrams, add what you need to the cart, pay immediately. No hassle purchasing.

I'm always impressed that we can still buy brand new OEM parts for our old bikes at a reasonable price.

  7. Why on earth would you want to buy Oem fasteners? They are the problem.

I haven’t tried them for fasteners yet but I understand RSRmoto do good fasteners. I have had other products from them though and they’ve always been good.

  8. Agreed, if they were good quality they wouldn't all need replacing.

    Anyone bought OEM engine paint?

  9. I once bought two oem bolts that had gone awol on my 848 evo Corse. They cost £21 back in 2012.

I could have bought them from a local fastenings shop in town for a few pence.

  10. i did the same recently

i used these guys for anything critical like caliper bolts

and accu.co.uk for all the non critical socket heads.

they will have a stainless options in a2, a4 marine stainless or titanium. various washer options, ie square chamfered thinner, or integrated. i got a digital micrometer from toolstation and took out the guesswork. best £19 i have ever spent.

i ordered up a bunch m6 m8 socket head in varying lengths.

  11. OEM are fit for purpose. May not be resistant to corrosion if used or poor spannering.
You can buy nice and cheap and shiny of course.
Critical fasteners full traceability or they stay in shop.
