Fair question, but you've encountered some comedians - its all light hearted banter ( not 'snide') be patient, the proper answers will ( may) come. perhaps you can have 100 % of the fun, by searching for and discovering the 'best ' roads yourself? thats what i do. After all, if you live there, you probably know them already? anyway, someone else's idea of a 'best road' may not be/isn't usually mine. My best roads are always lined with topless blondes ( naturally, i am keeping the location of that road to myself.....)
The bends into Burnham on Crouch and breakfast at the Cabin in Burnham on Crouch. Thaxstead to Halstead and breakfast at the Blue Egg in Great Barfield. Sorry, I can't offer topless Blondes, but these routes do have a good breakfast theme.
I like the twisty road starting in ongar at the gp garage roundabout goes through to near the Easter, leaden roding and then up to great dunmow, then you can go onto Finchingfield for a cup of tea.
Plus 1 Finchingfield, Burnham etc, Just have a good look at the map in these areas and plan a few trips you can find some decent bits here and there. You might also have to travel a little into Sunny Suffolk. I miss the North West (Morecambe) and was spoilt for places to ride. So I have to search also for a decent day out with lots of twisties. I live in Suffolk and have to travel to the area we are talking about. Good luck.
I used to like what was the A604 (Colchester to, say, Sible Hedingham) until they stuck 30mph speed limits in everywhere........... Also from A414 High Ongar to Writtle and then Great Waltham through to Felsted to A120 near Braintree.... Try the Suffolk area as Supergrandad says............from the A140 through Coddenham along the B1078, change to the B1079 at Otley and then through to the A12 at Woodbridge....

Finchingfield is a beautiful little village with a cafe and a pub, a little stream running through it and ducks, most Saturday and Sunday's when I go up there is loads of bikes, I think it is busiest Saturday mornings and especially when the sun shines. There is also a bike meet in Epping forest, and a van that does great bacon sarnies! Once again that's Saturday and Sunday morning, but I much prefer Finchingfield and the roads around Finchingfield to Braintree, are great and back down to Great Dunmow and after checking a map the twisty road I was on about is the B184 then turn right on A1060 to continue B184 to Great Dunnow, or turn left on A1060 towards Finchingfield. Hope this helps.
Flinching field to dun mow a great road,flinching field to thaxted good,flinching field to Haverhill awesome,but beware if the weather is good there could be 100s of bikes in flinchingfield,and some morons like to come around bends on the Wrong side of the road,has been known for Essex police to use helicopters who relay info to ground units,some on very normal looking BMW S1000R
