Beware Chinese Pirellis?

  1. I ordered Pirelli angels for my ST after reading good reviews. The Bridgestones on it still had life left but I was concerned about their age.

I get my tyres fitted at A18 motorcycle tyres in North Lincs. Andy is very competitive on price and takes great care when fitting them. He is also a bike enthusiast.

After the tyres were fitted, I wanted to check where they had been made. The front had been made in Germany but the rear had 'Made in China' on the side. I mentioned this to Andy and he remarked that whereas the front didn't need much weight to balance, the rear need a great deal. He duly contacted Pirelli and they seemed to think that the amount of weight needed was excessive. Anyway, Andy has re-ordered a tyre, stipulating that it should be German-manufactured and will re-fit.

I know this is one isolated incident from which no valid conclusions can be drawn but I will certainly check in future & avoid Chinese made tyres.

Has anyone else had any similar experiences?

  2. Having had a major disintegration of a brand new Chinese made car tyre in which Mrs AL nearly copped it, and having found out about the way the tyres are produced, there is no way I will trust a Chinese tyre.

  3. Billions of chinese can't be wrong

  4. The word 'Pilerri' on the sidewall might give the game away...

Presumably the tyres were not 'rubbery'???
