Biggelaar Clutch Mod For Ducati Ss

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ck_uk, Apr 21, 2023.

  1. Has anyone installed the Biggelaar clutch pack/mod on the SS, as per Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions?

  2. Yep I fitted it as they became available after the youtube Andy posted,
My clutch was effectively scrap and the new kit has saved
Yep, and it was worth every penny, I got it in lockdown €100 I think.
It's given new life to my totally knackered clutch.
The funny thing is it confuses people until I pull in the clutch & hear that bag of spanners noise.

  3. I've msg'd them via their website so hopefully they will come back with current price and availability. I'm keen on the aspect that it reduces (eliminates?) the wear on the clutch pushroad which could (apparently) result in some major expense further down the line if it's allowed to rattle away. I don't think mine is particularly worn at 7k miles, but like the sound (no pun intended) of this solution.

  4. Why would you spend the money when exactly the same result is achievable with a used friction plate?

  5. I'm all ears.

  6. It's probably the most well known Ducati mod on the planet.

Search for quiet clutch mod on here or Ducati quiet clutch mod on Google.

Basically it involves putting a used friction plate in right at the back and then building up the pack on top of it to the correct height.

I've used it on 8 different Ducati bikes now.
The clutch has Zero noise until you pull the lever in, then it clatters, but nowhere near as bad as a standard one with the lever out.

You need a few spare plates hanging around, but it's 20mins work with maybe another 10mins to adjust it if required.

If you were closer I'd happily do it for you.

  7. Sweet baby jeebus, well this has proven interesting.
The Biggelaar conversion makes the clutch completely silent , I've tried to post a video when I first fitted it, but I'm a bit useless at this.
I've since finished the parts to a new slipper clutch with the same sweet result, silence.
Until you pull in the lever.

  8. SNAP

  9. I could be interested in this as it certainly makes more racket than the full system fitted!

  10. I’ve been using the worn friction plate mod for a few years now and have had no problems and a much reduced ware rate on the basket, nice and quiet until the clutch is pulled in !!!
I’ve also been using Suzuki GS/GSX range friction plates as their usually much cheaper and easy to obtain,( the basket tangs are marginally longer and may need dressing back depending on your basket type )

  11. So it also works wit an slipper clutch??
Ive got an mpl one. And it already starts with an normal clutch platen instead of an steel one...

  12. I've also done the used plate mod, the first one in the basket. I've done it for years and it does work well. But I love the ring and clatter of a steel basket when the clutch is pulled in.

  13. I have the Suzuki plates in at the moment and they work well. They have the same effect as the biggerlaar mod in reversing the rattle.

  14. There should be an old vid when I fitted the mod to the clutch attached

  16. Bugger !!
I'm in the garage today & will make another vid & stick it on YouTube later on, after renewing the brake fluid & oil, ready for Oulton pk on Thursday.
