Bike/Car NCD

  1. I've been driving for 20 years and up to recently (2 years) as a named driver on my partners policy as I have a motorcycle. I drive company vehicles on a weekly basis.
I have 7 years NCD on my bike policy. I've just bought a car for myself with the view of selling my bike. When taking out insurance for my new car, can I use my 7 years NCD for the car??

  2. The entire NCD system is not a legal requirement as such any insurance company can do what they want. Try finding one that will accept it or bargain with some to accept the least 1 or 2 years to get you started.

There was plenty of offers when I picked up biking offering 1 full year of NCD after 9 months if I took out pay as you go policy with H&R. One I actually used was 2y NCD after 1y. I got it with Aviva (what ever their name was then). Had to take fully comp, bike could not be over 900cc and obviously could not claim at all in year one or have any traffic offences to get the 2y NCD at end of year one.

  3. Another example is Love insurance (the green one) where they offer 8y NCD not the usual max of 7y.
