Yesterday on the way back from a two day ride I noticed that I could not turn on the heated grips. Then after 20 min the low battery came on and stayed on the upper side of the dash. I continued till misfires started and lucky for me just made it home. Bike could not be restarted. Info on dash submenu indicated low voltage in red instead of the usual 12.7 volts. Put the bike on tender and by morning battery showed 12.8volts with the engine off. Only problem is while the engine starts and works as it should with no warnings flashing the voltage is still 12.8 volts w engine running instead of the usual 13.9 or14.2 volts. Where should I be concentrating my efforts for a repair? Battery terminals are tight as should.
Sounds like the alternator ( bike equivalent) is not working These us d to be windings behind the flywheel that we’re connected to an external rectifier / regulator Is the bike still under warranty?
Alternator. Either its not putting out what it should ( about 14v) or the regulator is stopping that 14 volts getting to the battery. Of course, there are variations on the theme. It could simply be a connection has come undone rather then a failure of either of the 2 parts but a simple visual should tell you pretty quick.
Yes. Happy though it happened now instead of our planned trip in May. Will take it to the dealer tomorrow. The thing is it never gave any indication that there was a imminent problem. On moment all was well next it totally dead
