Bike intercoms

  1. I am looking into buying a bike intercom for an up coming trip to Europe, I have never had or used one before, so looking for a bit of advice please. There will be a couple of us going, complete with pillion passengers so it would be nice to be all linked up together. The Cardo Scala G9 system looks to be favourite at the minute although one big question is I always wear ear plugs under my Multitec lid. What would be the chance of still hearing anything from the intercom with the plugs in ? Thanks in advance chaps

  2. According to mate who regularly takes his Doris pillion.... Worst thing he ever did!

  3. yeah that's another big worry, but I never listen to owt she says anyway

  4. Should be no problem wearing ear plugs. I'm currently using a Schuberth SRC Pro which is based on Cardo technology - plenty loud enough with ear plugs. I've also used an Autocom, again no problem.

We find the intercom useful, esp. when one of us wants a stop and spotting a suitable cafe. Don't much time chatting however we listen to music all the time.

    Have a good tour,

  5. The Maxon sets used to be good, used them when i was instructing, cant remeber what model they were though.

  6. This is the one i used to use, very reliable and a range of about quarter/half mile
    Hope it helps Intercom.jpg

  7. I use a Scala G9 and also wear foam earplugs. Absolutely no problem hearing through them with the Scala volume turned to the max. Tried and tested on a 1098R with open 70mm termis at 3 digits with other riders and there were no problems at all.

  8. PM Duke1276 and ask what he uses. He uses his with Pixie and also his students I think.

  9. Motorcycle monthly has a feature on intercoms this month, for bike to bike they recommend, Budget, T8OOM Interphone double kit, £67.99, Mid-Price, SenaSMH5 Double kit, £209.99, Premium, Interphone F5XT Double kit, £379.99

  10. The position of the speakers in the helmet is very important and makes a lot of difference to the volume. You may also need to use thin foam/velcro spacer disks to move the speakers inwards, closer to your ears.

  11. I have been using the Sena SMH 10 for the last 18 months and I have been delighted with the performance both as a rider to pillion intercom and bike to bike. The clarity of sound is very good and the battery life on one charge is good enough for almost 2 days riding. It can be charged on the move if required. You don't notice the weight of the unit when it is attached to your helmet. You can also buy a mount that allows the use of ear plugs with built in ear monitors which works very well indeed.

  12. Thanks for the replies, looks like an interphone F5 setup is the favoured one. £300 for dual system best quote so far. Although I'm still not convinced we/I need one !!

  13. Used an interphone 2 for phone and GPS, that is fine except I don't like the pod on the side of the lid. Also got a Schuberth C3 with the integrated comms, but the volume is not good enough for plugs in use.

  14. Hi my son and I have just purchased the new Q3 from Scarla £275. from Amazon Bluetooth between us is crystal clear in a line of sight for about 3/4 mile any bends hills reduces connection, phone connection is fantastic, along with sat nav and music even at 90-100 mph we have moulded earplugs with coms in which just plug straight into to Q3 and we use the boom mike supplied fits fine in a Shark lid and Shoei XR1100. I hope this is any help

  15. Had a Scala G4 for about a year. Good for bike to bike, good for connection to satnav, decent FM radio...but fucking useless as a rider to pillion intercom. Drops pairing, poor sound quality. I've sent it back and bought a wired Starcom instead.

  16. Did a lot of net trawling over the last few weeks and settled on the Interphone F5XT seems to do everything well. Moto Action in Italy were the cheapest I could find for the dual set 374 euros.
