V4 Bike Reeks Of Petrol Just After Starting From Cold, Normal?

  1. As topic title, owned her for 1 month now no complaints love the bike, it's just i've noticed it smells strongly of petrol when started from cold, just watched a bike go up in flames on reddit and it's got me thinking. Do these Pani's normally smell of fuel?

  2. Mine doesn’t but if the video you watched was a US bike, ignore it. That went up because of an incorrectly fitted aftermarket fuel cap. Not sure what to suggest because lifting the tank or removing bodywork is a real PITA. Bought from a dealer ? If so take it back. Andy

  3. it was bought from a dealer but after googling around i doubt it's anything to worry about. i think it's just running rich when i first start it when it's cold, it clears up after a few seconds and i've not noticed it when it's warm.

  4. id get it checked !! my mate had a v4r had the same smell, got home one evening got off to open the garage turned round and the think is on fire !! luckily put it out with the hose and the dealer came and picked it up and repaired it.

  5. jesus! maybe i will get it checked then, i want a couple of things doing to it anyway by the local ducati specialist, i'll ask him to look into it.

  6. No smell from mine. Is the bike still running the OEM exhaust and mapping, or has it got an after market system?

  7. yes all standard. thinking about it i think i may have exaggerated the thread title a bit, it didn't "reek" of petrol and i've only smelt it once in half dozen or so rides ive had on it, it was the 1st day i got it and it was a cold day and the bike hadn't been ran for a week or so. there's been no smell since. i will contact the duc specialist about it, i'm still thinking it's because it was rich due to the cold start on a cold day, and new bike sensitivity as i was looking all over it for faults as i'd just taken delivery on it. surely if it was leaking i'd smell petrol during and after a ride, not just when it was cold that 1 time? sounds like i'm trying to convince myself there's no problem! which maybe i am. but google does reveal most opinions say a brief fuel smell from a cold bike that goes away once warm is not too uncommon and is basically nothing to worry about :worried:

  8. It’s a death trap. I’ll take it off your hands for £500.
