Is there much of a market for storing bikes over winter do you think? I was sat today thinking about how I've been asked by a couple of people to store their bikes over winter and if it's something I could make a bit of pocket money from.. I was thinking that people could drop bikes off in October and collect in March etc. Not for people who need access. Garage is heated , and secure and I have loads of power points for trickle chargers. I can get 6 mid sized cars in my garage so maybe 30 bikes without issue. Insurance would need looking into for sure. What would people pay for such a service?
i charge a fiver a week for mates. suzi wolfs old man supplements his wage from it. think he charges more.
Can't help but wonder if insurance terms and conditions will scupper this idea....i had an insurance policy cancelled within 24 hours after I insured my bike at my dad's property.
I would initially think it not viable - but then I thought that about the place in London charging a lot per hour for spanner room, it seems to be doing well, so I would probably be wrong for once :Angelic:
I believe that some Ducati dealers offer storage over winter, with a discounted spring service in the new year.
Yeh that's the other concern. My other idea is to buy a few undervalued bikes and sit on them for a while. 749\999 etc
People have made a business out of storing cars, caravans and Recreational Vehicles, so why not motorcycles. Seems a perfectly sensible idea to me. Andy
Dealers and workshops have commercial insurance against theft so why not a storage business? That's the rub though. It would surely have to be run on a commercial basis and not an informal arrangement betweens mates and forum buddies. That means a commercial premises not a domestic garage (unless you apply for a change of use and register your garage as a commercial premises). It would all have to be above board and then there's no reason at all why it wouldn't be viable. I want to be looking at spending long extended periods abroad in the near future. The security of my bikes in my absence is one of my biggest worries, so I'd certainly be interested. But as ever, it all comes down to cost.
