916 Biposto Pillion Seat Pad

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Robert Colliver, Jun 29, 2023.

  1. Good evening all, is there any difference between the 748 and 916 pillion seat pad?

Just purchased a replacement for my bike, but, it has some metal brackets underneath, whereas, my 916 does not

Is a simple case of removing the unwanted brackets to fit the 916?

    Thanks

  2. A picture of said bracketry may assist with you getting the advice you need.

  3. Will get photo when I get home

  4. These brackets, they are not on the pillion pad for the 916 20230630_190853.jpg

  5. They appear to be hooks for attaching luggage perhaps?
Looks like you can remove them.
If you take them off, would the seat then fit?

  6. Looking at the underside of the seat, it is very similar, but, one of the wiring harness clips is in a different place, but, the securing bolts appear to be in the same places 20230630_195207.jpg 20230630_195202.jpg

  7. Taking them off makes the strap too long, had to swap the strap over from the old seat

  8. Sorted though?

  9. Getting there, butter fingers, gravity, trying to find where the nuts/bolts/washers fell

  10. I had these hooks under the biposto seat of my 2004 998. Entirely OEM. Looking at parts catalogs, it seems that the way the biposto seat locks on the rear subframe changed in 1999, with 996 and “second gen” 748. Before that, no hooks. EF973D13-0BB2-44CC-A6BA-4ED03AA93B95.png

  12. IIRC later bikes had the extra brackets to help secure the seat. I think because the older, no bracket seat, was more likely to detach if the bike went down. They latch into the subframe somehow, unsure if the subframe is the same?

Either way, just remove them if they're in the way.

  13. Looking on the ducati parts site, the rear subframe is completely different

  14. Quite possibly but the seat pad should be the same and so fit the older seat/subframe, minus the brackets of course.

  15. It does, remove the brackets, and swap the strap, the strap with the brackets is longer
