the 'uk's no1 bike insurer' wouldnt even quote me for a multibike policy for my 916 and 1098..wtf?? i asked them to quote me for the 1098 alone and they came back with £1600!! (3 yrs NCB, 42, clean sheet, nice area)..my 916 came out at over £1000..to give you an idea, i currently pay £117 for the 916...and i was grumbling at that... annoying coz im only a month or two away from getting 4 years....tip:never cancel a policy mid term if u can absolutely help it...7 years of constant bike insurance and ive only pulled 3 years together...back in the day i had 9, but didnt have a bike for a few years and went back to old kent road...buggers
I had the same problem. Sold my 749s mid term, purchased a ST3S. Bennetts said " it wasnt on there books so couldnt insure it." So had to go somewhere else. Lost 1 years NCB. lost money, then the cheeky gits sent me letter saying i had under paid for the insurance on the 749, i owned them £49.00." I said you can whistle for that." I didnt pay them. Never go with them again.
Same here, wouldn't quote on multi for existing policy 848 Evo with loads of NCB (had two months left) had to cancel and take new policy with them, went from £250 for evo to over £500 (may have been £800) for numpty. So cancelled, lost a year and bought it for £200! Wont be back.
Bennetts is usually the cheapest quote I get for multibike, but I won't use them on principle. For reference I'm 49, live inside the M25 and have over ten years ncb. Currently the Blackbird and Guzzi cost me just under £200 with pillion cover, european breakdown, etc. That's with ebike, but Bennetts quote was slightly cheaper. It's that cheap cos the bikes are old, though. Actually I should be thanking Bennetts. It was they who highlighted the stupid list of 'mods' that insurers use to try to avoid paying you. A couple of years ago Bennetts announced that you could have up to 3 'modifications' for free with their policies, so I asked them for a list of what they consider 'modifications', and what I saw frightened the shit out of me Make sure you ask potential insurers for a copy of that list...
Here's a typical list of mods. Bennetts list included soft luggage as a modification, as well as stickers!
35 years old, 900ss valued at £2500 TPFT cover, 1000 miles per annum, good area, lots of voluntary excess..... £51.32 Thank you Swinton!!!!
Swinton were best for me this year - 748 BP on 1000 miles pa, 5 years n/c, age 58, West yorks location - £65 tpft
yeah, my 916 was £68 last year..went up to £114?? wtf?? anyway, i'll probably cancel and multibike it..typical prices are around the £420 mark, which i dont think is too bad...£1600 for the Tric alone is a fuggin pish take..
Ducati Insurance for me. Easily beat the rest when I wanted to insure the 1098 and the Ninja. Im going to take a hit in may at renewal time following the theft of the ninja, but i'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Hopefully, I wont be living in North London then. Riot capital of the country :frown:
I find the whole "thats not on our book with that underwriter so youll have to take out a new policy" theme to happen quite alot. it must be the 'new black' in the motorcycle insurance game as a way of squeezing punters for more money.. I had that from a gsxr to 999 wtf - both sports bikes and one underwriter wont do both from same intermediary (think it was nash or rac) - what bollox. I personally dont think its the underwriters at all. I think its the brokers who score for yet more cancellation fees and new policy fees AND we cant prove it either way
1000 miles p.a. !!! I take it you don't commute on it, let alone use it for 'business' miles. Mines up for renewal next month ('92 900SS) so i'll be in the market if the price has changed much. Currently got fully comp, 12,000 miles p.a., business use, pillion covered, and euro recovery to home for £170 ....... might be because I'm old with full n.c.b.
Sounds about right really. I was paying £60 a year for my R1, then tried to add the 996 to the policy a few months back. I figured both bikes valued the same, third party only so no extra risk for the insurance company and the 996 is actually slower, so it should br a reduced risk if anything so I was expecting no increase, or if there was just some small amount to reflect the extra paper work. Anyway the Insurance company came back with £350 just to add the 996. WTF?!!! So I told them to go and f**k off as Carole Nash were quoting me £120, which although twice the price I was currently paying, its a lot cheaper than £350, so Bennetts tell me they cant match that, and in order for me to cancel my policy 4 months into a 12 month policy I will owe them another £65 on top of the £60 i already paid them for the 12 month insurance. WTF?! In the end after much heated discussions with their thick as a short plank customer service person they "kindly" dropped the cancellation fee down to £25. So I ended up paying £85 for just 4 months insurance with them and moved my business to Carole Nash. Interestingly Carole Nash said it would have been £120 for just the R1 alone, so twice the price of nearly all the other insurance companies, but for a multi-bike it worked out cheaper. I expect come the renewal next year they will double their prices like they usually do and so i`ll have to shop around again.
Has the original 916 policy actually been cancelled yet ? Shame if it has as it would be better to let it run and have another policy for the 1098 with another insurer that would let you add the 916 in a little while. I don't touch the internet insurers anymore and have gone back to a proper broker. It may cost a little more but I speak to the same guy every time and can have lucid conversations with him not like the majority of the knobs at the online call centres.
The problem there is that you can only use your NCB on one policy at a time. So if you insure the 1098 sepeately you`d have ZERO NCB to use and a massive premium. Bennetts "helpfully" suggested that to me to save me loosing a years NCB by cancelling my policy mid term. However I was in the fortune position I have 15 years NCB anyway, so loosing 1 year made no difference to me.
i was with e bike for several years, when i insured the multi 3 years ago for first time i was happy with the price payd in full. about a month after received an e mail demanding driving license (not copy) be sent to them. i refused for obvious reasons, gave them my driver number, seemingly not sufficient so they canceled my insurance with no refund. cocks.
Funny enough I've just had the same thing. They asked for my license, I emailed them copies and asked for them to acknowledge receipt of said email, they did and are happy now. Very odd practise.
Insurance companies are money making machines which many of you support via pension investments. I'm sick of the lot of you. I hope you all peg out before your pensions mature. Money minded capitalists everyone of you.
