Big day today with the test firing of the rocket that is hoped will help propel Andy Green to over 1000mph. Anybody else excited about this endeavour or is it just me? The BLOODHOUND SSC website | BLOODHOUND SSC
Messrs Noble and Green have fantastic, world beating achievements behind them, and a good prospect of even more astonishing feats in the future. In any other country in the world, they would be feted as national heroes. It is very British, this not making a fuss. I'm with you, Matt.
Ive been reading a book about Donald Campbell and his final record attempt recently. Great book and it really shows that British spirit. There are a couple of really good documentaries on Youtube about Thrust 2 and Thrust SSC. Well worth the time. The point? Only those who do it can really answer that one, but I have utmost respect for them doing so
I'm all for innovation and the spirit that is needed to push us forward but personally I'd rather see us developing cheaper, quicker more efficient aircraft so we can discover more of our planet. There are so many places I'd like to see, but the cost and time required to get there make it virtually impossible to do. Don't get me wrong, I'm full of admiration for these guys and what they are trying to achieve, but can't see how it's going to be a benefit to the human race. With the global economy in a dire state, the problems of climate change, and with the obvious decline in fossil fuels, maybe this record should be the point we say enough is enough and look to better ways to spend the money.
