Hi Guys, Okay, humour me as I'm sure this question has been asked on countless different forums but despite looking can't quite find the answer I'm after and having not used a headset since my training am a bit stumped. I'm just looking for a way of talking to the new 'never been on the back before' missus and would like a way of communicating with her to keep her all chilled out and happy. So Bluetooth headsets would seem to be the way to go. What I can't figure out is why everyone is quite happy to splash a couple hundred pound on these when we all carry around a bluetooth radio everyday in the form of our phones. What do they do that the phone can't/won't? Why do we not just use our phones with a standard plugged in headset and mic for this? Is there something I'm missing that means they don't work; in the words of Mr Jobs is there not an app for that?! Any and all advice or opinions warmly received and appreciated
Probably because the comms sets are made specifically for use in a helmet. A phone isn't. Not only that, you're probably breaking the law once you use the phone to call someone else irrespective of the fact she/he is clinging on behind. The helmet comms devices can only make a phone call whilst connected to a phone. I'm sure there is a knowledgable policeman on this forum ( or they're undercover. Secret Squirrel like.!)
Hi Shoboshi, Thanks for the reply; I'm meaning to use a headset connected to the phone, rather than stuffing the phone up inside the helmet. So assuming I'm using a proper headset I'm not sure I follow the logic around whether its legal, providing I'm not physically playing with the phone with my hands (which would be a trick whilst also hanging on ) I didn't suppose it to be any different to using a hands free in a car? Are there different rules for the bike to the car? Thanks again for the thoughts
Hi Jon, there are quite a few apps for both android and iOS that will allow you to use your phone with headsets as a communication system with a passenger or other riders. Haven't tried any myself but they are available.
