Anyone out there using the Interphone F5XT if so can you give a bit of feedback as in is it any good and is it worth the dosh. I'm sick of looking at shop reviews and would like some first hand info.
I have a pair of Interphone F5's, for some strange reason the Mrs insisted she wanted to talk to me while we rode???? We use them bike to bike and they have quite good range; probably about 1/2 mile. We bought them as pair and they were already paired together (Bluetooth) Its worth spending a bit of time getting the earphone and microphone routed correctly and wires hidden but I think they have fitted neatly into my Schuberth S2 full face. You can talk normally bike to bike on our Triumph Speed and Street Triples at speeds up 70mph, after that the wind noise starts affecting clarity. I have also paired my Garmin sat nav to the Interphone and my phone to the Garmin so you can hear voice sat nav instructions and take phone calls if you are that way inclined. I do find the voice prompts from the sat nav quite compared to when the wife speaks....... not sure if that's a quite sat nav or a loud wife! One button on the side of the unit swops between intercom and other connected devices and there is a simple up down volume control. Units so far have proved water proof but the manufacturer supplies silicone grease to use where the connector fits; you unplug this when you remove the unit to charge via a mains adapter. As far as I know you can not charge the unit while its in use but fully charged you can talk for a good 8 - 10 hours. Mrs uses her unit to listen to mp3 music bluetoothed from her phone but sometimes it looses it's connection when we talk on the intercom. The Sat Nav will over-ride the intercom to give it's instructions unless you disable the Bluetooth in the Garmin. The unit has a built in FM radio; never used it so no idea if its any good. The unit it's self clips onto a base plate that's either stuck to the side of the helmet or screw clamped ( I used the sticky and its still stuck) and its simple to fit and remove. The unit can pair up to I think 4 or 5 other Interphone F5's if your riding in a group and this will extend the overall range rear rider to front rider, pairing the units is quite simple. Overall do I like it? YES What could be better? Volume could be higher and bass level could be a bit deeper Easy to fit in helmet: Err bit of a fiddle allow perhaps a hour to make a perfect job Hope that is of help
Just one other thing the Interphone will NOT pair with other makes of Bluetooth headsets that your mates may be using
Thanks for that Richard some of my friends have the sena something something 10 but think it looks bulky and has its failings for the difference in price think the inter phone is a better bet.
Martin, I have the Sena SMH10 which is superb albeit a bit bulky, there is now a new version the SMH10R which is very flat and unobtrusive, especially if you can fit the battery unit inside the helmet. certainly worth a look. p.s. the Senas can be charged on the move which is ideal for longer journeys, I usually get a couple of days usage from a charge ( 2 x hours on the road with loads of chit chat and music in between) Jimmy
Ok thanks for the advice have made my mind up and gone for the Interphone F5XT but here's the thing the duel head set in the UK is 380 pounds plus 18 pounds post total 398 and in Italy 349 inclusive of post and packaging thats almost 50 pounds cheaper in Italy something not quite right there.
Looked at that Alanp only thing that put me off it was not being able to detach the unit from the helmet and the stick on battrey. In one of the reviews they suggested that it was a bit fiddley with a winter glove on.
One tip with the Interphone, when you switch it on with the main centre button, don't keep the button depressed too long or you will go into the language menu, wife had her's talking to her in French for the whole day until we figured it out
