Had a test ride on the new water cooled BMW R1200 GS today. Before my Multistrada's I had 4 GS's. Great bike but I wanted a Ducati hence the Multistrada. Today I had a test ride on the water cooled version. Incredibly smooth engine, very light clutch with the improved but still a bit clunky gearbox. Loads of toys, power modes etc. Felt very light but the thing that put me off was the road noise. Above 25/30mph the resonance from the tyres was very noticeable and for me ruined the ride. Apparently its the Michelin Anakee's. I cannot understand how BMW can allow this as for me it's a deal breaker as I would not buy a bike and then have to change tyres to be able to enjoy the ride.
I test rode a WC GS too very very impressed, still bought the Multi, mostly because of performance and weight size, but horses for courses, noisy tyres that can be changed on the GS, over wind noise because of the wind shield on the MS, though that can be improved too.
